Nim's Island Reviews

Nim's Island Review Summary

"Young girls are learning to be their own hero" watching Nim's Island. Jodi Foster and Abigail Breslin star in this adventure film the whole family can enjoy. Breslin pulls out another winning performance, just as she did in Little Miss Sunshine. Nim's Island has something for everyone, from the animals, to the young heroine, to the author's role, to the beauty of the island. Reviewers find this adventure film has a good message for kids, although are concerned that they are also being left with a bad message as well, after the young girl is left alone by her father. Overall, Nim's Island is "great family fun."

I was a little confused watching the previews for Nim's Island. When the film was first being promoted, it was showing mostly Jodie Foster's role as an author and just a little of Abigail Breslin's role as a young girl stranded on a deserted island. A few weeks later, the previews switched to showing mostly Breslin's role and very little of Foster. It was as if they decided that young Breslin could carry the movie better than veteran actress Foster. — — This all gave me some worries heading in to the theatre to see Nim's Island, but my fears were thrown to the side very quickly.… read full review »

Nim's Island — Abigail Breslin heads up this superb cast which includes Veteran Jodie Foster and the handsome Gerard Butler. — Living secluded on an undiscovered island, Nim and her Scientist father enjoy their privacy.  While gone overnight in search of a new Protozoan, Jack (Gerard Butler) encounters a monsoon and is lost at sea.  Back on the island, Nim (Abigail Breslin) is holding down the fort and reading her new book about adventure hero, Alex Rover.  — At the same time in San Francisco, CA....Alex Rover, the Author, is stuck on the next… read full review »

Nim's Island is a cute family movie. I took my two boys and my mom to see it today and we all enjoyed different parts of the movie. — — My boys loves the animals moments, especially the lizards. My mom liked the scenes that incorporated parts of the author's book and her main character. I liked the author herself and the courage of Nim. — — Nim's Island is full of excitement, beauty, tranquility and a little fear. — — The one thing I didn't like was how the dad just left Nim on the island for what was supposed to be a two day trip. I didn't think that… read full review »

Nim's Island — The basics: — A young girl named Nim grows up on a deserted island with her scientist father, surrounded with her island friends and an addiction to a literary hero named Alex Rover. When her father goes missing she intercepts an e-mail from Alex Rover, who turns out to be the author of her favorite hero - but what Nim does not know - Alex is actually Alexandra. A recluse writer, who hasn't left her home in years but summons the courage (from her own hero) to go to Nim in her time of need. — My viewpoint: — This was such a lighthearted comedy -… read full review »

I watched an interview with Jodi Foster on the CBS Early Show when she was promoting this movie and from the movie clip I saw and the interview, I'd say kids will love this movie and teens too (at least the teens who don't think they're already grown up will).  —  The interaction with the animal and the girl would make this movie of interest to anybody who is very interested in animals, animal training and animal behavior.  Also, the girl has to "pull some things together" to achieve her goals, much like the MacGuyver TV show, so fans of A-Team, MacGuyver and… read full review »

Nim's Island is a perfect movie to watch with your kids. It's a summer movie that transports you into a beautiful place. It shows family values because although the girl lost her mother, her bond with her dad is enormous. It shows that even if sometimes you don't have everything you want you can still be happy.… read full review »

I took my seven-year-old daughter to see this film and she thoroughly enjoyed it.  — Nim is a young girl who lives with her scientist father on an uncharted island in the Asiatic Sea.  Her best friends are a sea lion, a lizard and pelican.  She is fiercely independent and treasures their secret island.  — Alexandra Rover is an agoraphobic author who writes best-selling novels about Alex Rover, a world-traveling adventurer, a la Indiana Jones.  She only eats Progresso soup and uses a lof of hand santizer because she worries about germs. … read full review »

Nim's Island is the perfect imagination film. It is the story of a little girl who is left alone on a deserted island that her scientist Father found. While he is out searching for a new protozoea, Nim is left to defend the island from pirates with a little help from her animal friends, and has contact with her only human source to the outside world, a writer who is afraid to go outside of her house, that writes Nim's favorite adventure books. — This movie has all great elements in it. Romance, surprise, fear, action, adventure. A great family film! —… read full review »

This was a great movie for kids to see.  It contains some scary elements, so I wouldn't recommend for children under 8 years old.  A family near us brought a 2 year old girl, which i thought was completely inappropriate (especially when they had to remove her mid-movie).  Going back and forth between reality and imagination was well… read full review »

Delightfully enjoyable movie. The father/daughter relationship was heart warming.  Scenery was very nice, including dad/adventure hero.  Loved the pets.  Good message to always be prepared.  The transcontinental journey was unrealistic and a distraction.  Was a nice feel good movie with a bit of everything in the… read full review »
