Nim's Island Review Summary

"Young girls are learning to be their own hero" watching Nim's Island. Jodi Foster and Abigail Breslin star in this adventure film the whole family can enjoy. Breslin pulls out another winning performance, just as she did in Little Miss Sunshine. Nim's Island has something for everyone, from the animals, to the young heroine, to the author's role, to the beauty of the island. Reviewers find this adventure film has a good message for kids, although are concerned that they are also being left with a bad message as well, after the young girl is left alone by her father. Overall, Nim's Island is "great family fun."

I was a little confused watching the previews for Nim's Island. When the film was first being promoted, it was showing mostly Jodie Foster's role as an author and just a little of Abigail Breslin's role as a young girl stranded on a deserted island. A few weeks later, the previews switched to showing mostly Breslin's role and very little of Foster. It was as if they decided that young Breslin could carry the movie better than veteran actress Foster.

This all gave me some worries heading in to the theatre to see Nim's Island, but my fears were thrown to the side very quickly. I had brought my 11...

Nim's Island

We've seen several of the newest movies for kids released in 2008 including Horton Hears A Who, Wall-E, Kung-Fu Panda and Tinkerbell.  The hands downs favorite was Nim's Island.

Nim's Island stars Abigail Breslin (Little Miss Sunshine, Kit Kittredge) as Nim, the fabulous Jodie Foster, as writer Alexandra (Alex) Rover and Gerard Butler in a dual role as Nim's Dad and the Alex Rover hero from Alexandra Rover's adventure series.

While Nim and her scientist Dad, Jack, live a secluded life in the South Asiatic Sea, Alexandra Rover lives a self-imposed secluded life in her townhouse. ...

Nim's Island

Abigail Breslin heads up this superb cast which includes Veteran Jodie Foster and the handsome Gerard Butler.

Living secluded on an undiscovered island, Nim and her Scientist father enjoy their privacy.  While gone overnight in search of a new Protozoan, Jack (Gerard Butler) encounters a monsoon and is lost at sea.  Back on the island, Nim (Abigail Breslin) is holding down the fort and reading her new book about adventure hero, Alex Rover.

At the same time in San Francisco, CA....Alex Rover, the Author, is stuck on the next installment of Alex Rover Adventure Hero's book.  In search...

Nim's Island is a cute family movie. I took my two boys and my mom to see it today and we all enjoyed different parts of the movie.

My boys loves the animals moments, especially the lizards. My mom liked the scenes that incorporated parts of the author's book and her main character. I liked the author herself and the courage of Nim.

Nim's Island is full of excitement, beauty, tranquility and a little fear.

The one thing I didn't like was how the dad just left Nim on the island for what was supposed to be a two day trip. I didn't think that sent a good message to kids. The good news is that he does...

Nim's Island

The basics:

A young girl named Nim grows up on a deserted island with her scientist father, surrounded with her island friends and an addiction to a literary hero named Alex Rover. When her father goes missing she intercepts an e-mail from Alex Rover, who turns out to be the author of her favorite hero - but what Nim does not know - Alex is actually Alexandra. A recluse writer, who hasn't left her home in years but summons the courage (from her own hero) to go to Nim in her time of need.

My viewpoint:

This was such a lighthearted comedy - perfect for kids and adults a like. The cinematography...

Nim's Island was something I expected to like, but didn't expect that I'd really think it was fantastic.  Perhaps I was in the mood for a fantasy film, or perhaps I just really liked the idea of living on a beautiful secret secluded island!  Whatever it was, I really enjoyed this movie.

Only two people live on Nim's Island.  Jack is a scientist who is only really interested in single-cell beings.  He found this island and has vowed to keep it away from civilization.  The only person he shares it with is his daughter Nim.  Around 12 or so, Nim is loving the island life.  She is friends with...

Nim's Island is a perfect movie to watch with your kids. It's a summer movie that transports you into a beautiful place. It shows family values because although the girl lost her mother, her bond with her dad is enormous. It shows that even if sometimes you don't have everything you want you can still be happy.

I watched an interview with Jodi Foster on the CBS Early Show when she was promoting this movie and from the movie clip I saw and the interview, I'd say kids will love this movie and teens too (at least the teens who don't think they're already grown up will).

The interaction with the animal and the girl would make this movie of interest to anybody who is very interested in animals, animal training and animal behavior.  Also, the girl has to "pull some things together" to achieve her goals, much like the MacGuyver TV show, so fans of A-Team, MacGuyver and similar stories would probably like...

I took my seven-year-old daughter to see this film and she thoroughly enjoyed it.

Nim is a young girl who lives with her scientist father on an uncharted island in the Asiatic Sea.  Her best friends are a sea lion, a lizard and pelican.  She is fiercely independent and treasures their secret island.

Alexandra Rover is an agoraphobic author who writes best-selling novels about Alex Rover, a world-traveling adventurer, a la Indiana Jones.  She only eats Progresso soup and uses a lof of hand santizer because she worries about germs.  And she occasionally imagines Alex Rover, the male character...

Nim's Island is the perfect imagination film. It is the story of a little girl who is left alone on a deserted island that her scientist Father found. While he is out searching for a new protozoea, Nim is left to defend the island from pirates with a little help from her animal friends, and has contact with her only human source to the outside world, a writer who is afraid to go outside of her house, that writes Nim's favorite adventure books.

This movie has all great elements in it. Romance, surprise, fear, action, adventure. A great family film!

This was a great movie for kids to see.  It contains some scary elements, so I wouldn't recommend for children under 8 years old.  A family near us brought a 2 year old girl, which i thought was completely inappropriate (especially when they had to remove her mid-movie).  Going back and forth between reality and imagination was well done.

Delightfully enjoyable movie. The father/daughter relationship was heart warming.  Scenery was very nice, including dad/adventure hero.  Loved the pets.  Good message to always be prepared.  The transcontinental journey was unrealistic and a distraction.  Was a nice feel good movie with a bit of everything in the mix.

This was well put together. The actors were great, the movie kept my attention from start to finish. I hope there is a sequel to find out what happens next. This was great fun family enjoyment. I give it two thumbs up....way to go Abigail, Gerard and Jodie....You deserve rewards for this one.

Nice family film that holds the interest of all in the audience.  Something the parents can appreciate, and the children will enjoy the storyline with the involvement of animals.

Nim's island is a great fantasy movie. For adults it is necessady to suspend belief but all in all, a great film with very strong charaters, especially the women.
