My son got the Nikon CoolPix L16 Digital Camerafor Christmas (ok, as an early Christmas present) and of course during a recent trip to New Orleans I decided to put it through it's paces to make sure that it was not only a good deal but a good camera. You may recognize the name Nikon Coolpix as it is one of the "hottest" camera's right now, I don't know but maybe it could have something to do with heart-throb Ashton Kutcher featuring in the commercials.

Features of the Nikon CoolPix L16 Digital Camera

  •   7.1 MP resolution
  • 3x optical zoom-Nikkor lens2.8" LCD screen
  • 21MB of internal memory and support for SDHC memory cards
  • AA battery size compatible

  • anti-shake

  • Includes PictureProject Software
  • Shoot TV quality movies at 30 frames per second with sound
  • Additional Features
  • High light sensitivity up to ISO 1600 for shooting in low light situations
  • 15 pre-set scene modes automatically setup the camera for better pictures
  • Face-Priority AF automatically finds and focuses on a person's face for clear, crisp portraits
  • Exclusive D-Lighting automatically brightens the dark areas in the picture and in-camera red-eye fix automatically fixes red-eye
  • In-Camera Red-Eye Fix automatically finds and then corrects red-eye

Price of the Nikon CoolPix L16 Digital Camera:  We purchased it at Walmart for $89.97 however I think it was worth the additional amount (total $99.88) to have the bundle package which included a 2GB SD memory card and camera case.

My Viewpoint:   We took the Nikon CoolPix L 16 Digital Camera for a test drive while taking a weekend trip to New Orleans.  After arriving late at night, and settling in of course there was no holding back two 21 year old guys (my son brought a friend) and they were ready to go out on the town. We were located just blocks away from Canal Street and stayed at the Wyndham La Bell Maison  so we decided to take a little trip, on foot throughout the French Quarter in one of three cities that never sleeps in the US.  Since it was night time the boys wanted to shots of every club, restaurant, and saloon that interested them as well as more detailed shots of inside (when they could afford the cover).  This camera held up very well while taking pictures inside dark or low light areas, as well as great pictures of the people they met.  Once the gentlemen were well into the night, the auto function setting from the menu took all the guess work out of our picture taking.

The internal memory is very limited, so I was glad that I spent the extra money on a memory card, as the shots kept on coming throughout the night and weekend. The camera is just the right size for travel without being too heavy or bulky. You can even slide it into a front or shirt pocket and the carry case keeps it protected from accidents.  The Nikon Coolpix L16 Black Digital Cameraheld up well under the pressure of so many different settings, lighting's and travel.  They were very pleased with their pictures from such places as the Hard Rock Café, Pat O'Brien's, Crescent City Brewpub and The Saloon.

I use my own digital camera for both personal and professional use, so prefer many more functions and a higher megapixel and zoom.  However, this Nikon Coolpix L16 Digital Camera really does make taking "cool pix" easy and fun to do. It's lightweight, sturdy design, lightweight design, many important features and ease of use makes it the perfect digital camera for everyone from a teenager starting out with a digital camera to those wanting to just take really great pictures for fun and lasting memories and not spend a lot of money doing it.

Note: It is available in other colors.

Smile and say cheese. Snap, the flash goes off and we have a beautiful picture ;+) I have a smaller digital Canon (did a review) and still haven't figured out most of the functions but it sure does take great pictures. Glad you are pleased with the camera! ~Gigi
