After a series of disappointing experiences with mid range digital cameras over the past ten years, I took the plunge and bought the camera I would have always wanted if i could have afforded it -- now that the price is low enough for me to afford it!  The Nikon D80 is generations ahead of any digital camera I (or anyone I know) has ever used.  What is most surprising of all is that all the tweaks and settings that my other cameras had are on this camera as well (plus more) , but on the D80 they are laid out so logically that I can actually use them!  So, I can change the ISO on the fly, or... review »

I picked up the D80 several weeks ago after playing with my Dad's Nikon SLR and really love it so far.  The picture quality is great but I really enjoy the flexibility of interchanging multiple lenses and the response speed of the SLR vs my old point & shoot digital cameras.
I am not a fan of the lenses that come bundled with the Nikon D80 as I've read they are not that great quality wise so I went with the stand-alone camera body and added a Tamron 17-55mm telephoto lens as well as a Nikon 50mm 1.8/f primary lens.  I'm very glad I did so as they produce great shots!

I just got this at Christmas and fell in love completely. I have had other digital cameras but no SLR like this one. You can do so much with it, although I am still learning about it. It is like Christmas all over again when I find a new trick to do with it. I definitely recommend this camera. Its not lightweight like the small digitals but it is soooooo much better. Any average person can put it on Auto and take wonderful pictures!

I purchased the Nikon D80 for My wife for her birthday and i am so glad i steered away from the normal point and click cameras as this has great quality and easy functionality for the beginner or for the tenird professional. I would recommend buying this anytime over any other point or click

WIth this camera, even amateurs can take professional looking photos. All the functions and features are greatly laid out and easy to use, the image quality is excellent and is overall a great camera. I gave it to my 9 year old son to try it out, and the pictures he took: amazing. Looked like some of those pictures the pros take for National Geographic or some other big magazines. Just amazing.

The Nikon D80 is the first DSLR camera we have owned after years of struggling with poor quality photos from standard point and click digitals.  The Nikon D80 is so easy to use and navigate that it made that transition much less intimidating.

A few of the features that attracted me to the camera were:

  • 10.2 Megapixels, which yields very high resolution images. Great for this price range.
  • 2.5 inch LCD monitor. This allows for quick assessment of picture quality. The zoom features allow you to evaluate the photos in even greater detail on the fly. Additionally, the menu options on the screen are...

My husband is the official camera nut in the family but after getting Nikon digitals for my son and grandson, I decided it was my turn.  I didn't really care about the brand but my husband said I could use his arsenal of lenses so that sounded good to me.  I love the D80 even though it will probably be years before I know everything it can do.  But even as  a point and shoot for an amateur, the results are amazing.  I even took some close up shots of flowers and tree resin and was amazed at the color and clarity.  I'm still taking baby steps and using automatic settings most of the time although... review »

We do a lot of traveling and I've found that the Nikon D80 with the 18-200 VR lens are all I need to pack. I love the versitility of the lens combined with the speed of the camera. My only complaint was how heavy it can get after a long day of trekking around a city with it hanging from my neck, but that was before I purchased a more comfortable strap. It takes a while to learn all the menus and features available if you are new to a digital SLR, it just takes some practice and experimenting.   I love my D80 and don't plan on trading it in anytime soon.

Nikon D80 is the best camera I ever had. You can catch a great picture of a flying eagle, approcing him so much as you think you can touch him with your hand. You can also catch an ant carrying a piece of something, several times bigger than her...and locking at the picture you think that's a monster from a horror movie. There are many ways to describe the great performence of this camera...You will see the difference when you'll try it...and you'll never regret.

I have always had canon cameras in the past, but when i went to the store to purchase a new camera they had a deal on the nikon. I purchased it with the intention of taking it back if it did not meet my expectations. Once i used it, i was sold. I will never go back to a canon again. the quality of the pictures are great and the camera was so easy to use. i even let my 10 year old son take pics. you cant take bad pics with this camera

If you want to take great pictures even in low light, you have to get this lens. This lens also comes in F1.4. You will need this lens if you take portraits, or if you want to produce professional quality pictures. The zoom lens is good as a universal lens. As soon as you go serious about using this Nikon D80 and all it's features, you will definitely need this lens.

The one I got over the internet is a Nikkor 50MM/F1.8

If you need a new digital camera, look no further. This is the best thing since sliced bread! You simply point and shoot. It doesn't take a bad picture!  The battery charges and stays charged. You can manipulate the pictures before you download them to your printer or computer. You can zoom, get rid of red eye, and more!  This camera is expensive, but worth the money.
If you need a camera, buy this one!

I absolutely love my Nikon D80. It is simple to adapt to if you are already adept at using SLR cameras. The automatic settings work quite well for all different types of photography.  I bought my D80 over 2 years ago, but I would still recommend it today. I know there are newer versions - sure they are just as good.  If you are a pro - there are a lot of manual features to use.

The first day i saw this beauty on the TV i knew i was in love. The results you get with a Nikon D80 are incredible no matter what, the setting are easy to work, the screen is nice and big for you to see, and the viewfinder is quite large also, everything about this camera couldnt be better. And for beginners the 18-135mm is a perfect everyday lens, Nikon really outdid themselves with this one.

We bought this camera less than a year ago and I LOVE it. The photo quality is incredible/ For the beginner put it in Auto mode and go, you will get great quality photos. And then  you can experiment and see the results right away in the viewing screen!  I highly reccomend this camera. As a scrapbooker, I want the best quality photos for my layouts and this camera delivers!
