I had been checking out many different SLR cameras for a year as I really wanted a camera that took amazing professional grade photos. My point and shoot was not doing it. After months of checking out each camera, I had my heart set on the Canon Rebel XTi......that is until I tried the Nikon D80.
My husband bought the Nikon D80 second hand for me to cheer me up after getting laid off from my previous job earlier this year. I am so glad he did. This camera takes some seriously amazing pictures!!!!
The body of the Nikon D80 is pretty solid. The hand grip is a bit rubbery and gives a good grip to hold onto. The weight is a little heavy for some, but I feel the added weight helps me to find a good balance. This camera came with a Nikon Nikor AF 18-135 mm lens. There are manual settings where you can set the shooting mode for a customized setting or you can use any of the point and shoot settings for those who want the convience of a point and shoot with SLR quality. There is a extensive menu where you can customize shooting settings, edit your photos directly in the camera, and camera settings. The battery is a special lithum battery but is rechargable. You can use any SD memory stick, but I recommend a HD of 4MP or higher. I use a 8MP HD SD memory stick and can get almost 1200 pictures on there. It may seem excessive, but you can take a lot of pictures with this camera.
I have taken many beautiful pictures with this camera. It has 10.2 MP and you can see fine details in your pictures. My biggest gripe is the view finder is very small and you really cannot see everything without magnifying the image to see details. The pop up flash is also very harsh, so I recommend a external flash for assistance.
I will never use anything but a Nikon SLR ever again. I have tried the Canon and Sony SLR cameras that are comparable to the D80 and none of them compare to the Nikon D80.
