The D70 is an excellent camera for all photographer experience levels. It can be operated as a simple point and shoot and then be put in manual mode so as to let the photographer define the shooting parameters. Picture quality is also outstanding. Although it has a built in flash which works great, I have used it with my Nikon SB-600 as well as my manual vivitar 383. — Nikon also did a great job of grandfathering lens compatability as well. While DX type lens truly render the cameras optimum performance, you can use any AF-D or G F mount lens on the camera. — I am… read full review »

I've had 35 mm cameras in the past and love Nikon the best!  When I moved to digital it was the best move I've ever made because it's so easy to take pictures and immediately view what you've shot.  Equally easy to delete bad pictures. This Nikon camera offers what the Professionals need in the way of manual settings and also offers the amateur a chance to get professional-looking pictures by using the automatic settings.  — This camera is a little larger and heavier than most of the digitals out there, but worth the trouble to be able to change lens and… read full review »

I have been an amateur photographer for a lot of years and have owned several cameras from point and shoot to SLRs. The D70 is my second digital camera and it is meeting every expectation. I still have a lot to learn about what it can do, but what impresses me is how much it can do all by itself. — Some of my photography buddies give me a hard time about where I intend to put the film in this camera, but the ability to look at an exposure and delete/correct problem photos on the fly is beginning to make believers out of them. — I take my camera into some tough situations… read full review »

I've had this camera for almost two years and am still amazed by how easy it is to use.  I'm by no means "into photography" but I want to use a quality product that will do much to ensure that I get great pictures despite my lack of talent. — I honestly have only referred to the user manual a few times - I've been able to figure out the rest just by pushing buttons on the camera itself - very intuitive menus and easy to find functions. — I've taken quite a few action shots at events I enjoy (figure skating competitions and exhibitions, dog shows, etc.) and am amazed at the… read full review »

The Nikon D70 was a great purchase. I compared it to Pentax and Canon equivalents. In the end, I think that the Nikon brand was my principal decision point, that and the fact that the D70 came with an exceptional 18-70mm lens in a package deal that ran $1200 after a rebate. As compared to current camera advancement over the past two years, the 6 megapixel rate it now considered on the lower end of the scale, but I find image quality to be very good. — — My only gripe is with the pop-up flash. It is inadequate and tends to cast a shadow when used with longer lenses. This makes… read full review »

This camera is great..  I got my D70 almost three years ago, and have had no troubles.  I own two lenses, that allow me to get all kinds of images.  The attached flash work rather well, but a speed light is needed for best lighting.  The auto setting is great for the beginner.  The manual settings seem easy to use if you know how to work them. — Picture quality is great.  The battery lasts a long time on one charge.  I have not had to make any repairs, although I need to have it cleaned every once in a while. —… read full review »

When I got this camera in 2005, it was the best camera on the market.  It is still one of the top 10 if you are looking to get a user SLR camera.  If you are looking for a new camera, keep looking at Nikon and get one of the newer ones because Nikon means quality.  I recommend that you take a few hours to try out the camera before needing it for something important though, because it has a lot of features and modes and you will need some time to figure out which button does… read full review »

Very fast, solid build quality, excellent image quality, and very good battery life. For those more advanced, you can change over to manual settings. Tons of features and functionality. — Pictures are outstanding in bright sun and in-doors.Gives you a much wider latitude with ISO, f/stop, shutter speed, RAW mode, etc. than film. … read full review »
