Nikon - D50 Digital Camera — 

This is the most versatile camera you will ever own but certainly not the cheapest.  Well worth the money if you are looking to capture speed, low lite, fine detail.  If you choose you can set it to be totally automatic for every day shots and it takes fabulous pics.  For more challenging situations sometimes manual over rides are necessary.  At first glance it is intimidating but learn each function, one at a time.  Use the auto modes until you get comfortable.   The 300mm telephoto lens is awesome and I probably have that on most of the time.  Would highly recommend this camera to someone who want's better than average shots and is willing to invest the time to learn the functions.
