The Canon D50 was a little scary for me at first but after reading quickly through the manual it was fantastic. If you are an amateur photographer like I am, then I strongly suggest setting the camera to the auto focus setting. This will let the camera do the focusing for you. However, there are times when I want the focus to be on a further object and it focuses on the closer item. You can also press the button numerous times and the camera will show you in the screen what area it's focusing on. I do suggest reading the manual for using the special features. As I only take pictures for pleasure, I sometimes forget how to change the settings, but the manual is very well planned out and I've always been able to find the information that I need. This camera takes beautiful pictures, once I figured out the focus. I love the night time picture taking feature. I also have enjoyed the feature that allows me to take multiple pictures with a push of the button. This has made sporting events exciting and I've been able to capture action shots. I have also used the camera to get pictures of wildlife. This camera can be hooked to a spotting scope, with an adapter kit, and used to take pictures through the scope. This has proven to be done very simply and the pictures turn out really good.
