I've had a Sony point and shoot for two years now and was getting to the point where I wanted something a bit more. Not more in the pixels area, just more of a camera. I wanted to have that feeling of a solid camera in my hand. I wanted to look through the lens and feel like I was setting up a shot. — The D40 is Nikon's first attempt at an inexpensive camera aimed at people looking to do exactly what I was contemplating. — At first grasp, the D40 feels great in your hand. I feel that I have fairly large hands and am comfortable holding this. I've had no problems with prolonged…

The Nikon D40 camera is more for the expert than the novice, and allows manual settings changes, but it does have automatic modes if you prefer. The Nikon provided clean crisp excellent photos. The first week we got it with the stock 50 mm lens, and paid a little less than $600.00. We took the camera to Florida and it took great pictures from the sunsets in Key West to the sunrises in Fort Lauderdale. This is the 5th Digital Camera I've used in as many years and it is by far the best with a 6 Mega Pixel limit. In this time I have used Sony, Polaroid, Cannon and…

very good start camera — Two and a half years ago Nikon announced the six megapixel D70, their first affordable enthusiasts digital SLR, it proved to be a very popular camera and strong competitor to the Canon EOS 300D (Digital Rebel). Just fifteen months later Nikon revealed the D70s which was essentially the same camera with a some subtle tweaks (improved AF, wider flash coverage, higher capacity battery, larger LCD monitor). And so just over fifteen months on from the D70s Nikon present the latest incarnation of their 'enthusiasts' digital SLR line, the ten megapixel D80. — …

I've had several digital cameras over the years. They have all had their pros and cons. The Nikon D40 is an amazing camera and is perfect for the non-professional photographer that wants to take great pictures. Set up is easy, the instructions are clear & concise, and you are a click away from wonderful pictures. Response time between pushing the button and the picture being taken is very fast compared to all my other cameras. That has always been an issue for me and has been the cause of many missed photos. The lens you get gives you a wide range for your…

practical, scrapbooker, Photo junkie, will pay for quality, an amateur photographer, Picky about pictures, attached to my camera, loving my digital camera
The Nikon D40 is he best camera i've ever owned. I was attached to my N50 for the past 8 years or so and was very reluctant to give up my 35mm camera. I am an avid scrapbooker and love to take photos but was always disappointed in the shutter speed of the point and shoot digitals. I was missing way too many shots of my kids. My husband bought this for me for Mother's day and I haven't put it down since. I have never missed a shot and i love the options to change the lighting and color options right on the camera. I would recommend this camera to anyone who i…

I love my Nikon D40. This is the first digital SLR camera I have owned. I found it on the internet at a very good price. I bought the upgraded battery since the standard battery didn't last long. The pictures are very clear and crisp. The manual was easy to read and it didn't take long to start taking pictures. I love being able to take digital shots without the delay of most point and shoot digital cameras. The different shooting options make the camera versatile. The portrait option allows me to take good shots to use in the…

I am still trying to figure out my camera however their are things I dont have that I know other cheaper cameras have. I do enjoy my camera but think I could have gotten more for my money! The software is limited. The common items are present, cropping, black and white ect. — The camera itself is nice but the lense comes off too easy. I lost mine the first day I had brought it out. I think it is easier to use than other cameras. Having owned 4 different cameras I would recommend the camera itself but another photo shop. —…

I love this camera, it takes such GREAT, clear photos! — You don't have to be an expert at photography to be able to take really good photos with this camera. — The one this is that I am used to carrying around a smaller camera, than this one. With the lense on it, it is over twice the size as my old one. — But my previous camera was a Nikon too. I think that no matter what camera you choose, you just can't go wrong if it is a Nikon. —…

I bought this camera on sale at best buy for 500 dollars and it was the best investment ever. It has a child setting to take pics of kids which is perfect because I work at a daycare. I never get a blurry photo and there are so many ways to take pictures you never get bored. It isnt too heavy to hold for long periods of time. Takes amazing photos and will pay for itself if you sell these…

The Nikkon D40 has all kinsd of advanced features. The best part of this camera is that it's still point and shoot, but it gives INCREDIBLE images. They're huge (17"x14") and high quality. You can shoot several pictures all at once without waiting for it. — — The onyl negative I can speak of is the image quality in the dark - without flash - is poor. —…

This was my first digital camera. I'm very pleased with it. It is easy to use and the extras that came with it helped to learn the extra benefits of the camera. When set to take consecutive pictures it quickly takes and processes the pictures. When buying a lens with more zoom make sure you buy a VR lens. This helps with…
