I bought the Nikon D40 camera in 2008 for a great price and am very happy with it. This camera is the bottom tier Nikon camera DSL model but not the worst. The pictures taken with it come out great and the lense that usually come with the kits are very good. I also bought a 30-200 VR zoom lense and remote control for it separately. From someone who used to take photos using a DSL film camera, I feel the camera has a nice a nice feel to it and doesn't feel cheap. There are so many manual overides that for now I'm just using automatic settings. I went with 6 megapixels because anything larger may be overkill for me as I don't think I will be making pictures any larger than 8X10 inches and a flash card can fill very fast if all your images are 10 MB's. The built in flash is good for about up to eight to ten feet and it also features a red eye reduction feature which I desparity need for my kids (blue eyes). The camera holds at least a 8GB flash card and I use a high speed, class Sandisk Extreeme III class 6 card for fast read/write speeds. One of my only complaints is that the camera does not have a digital viewfinder and you have to use the eye piece. Most newer DSLR's have a viewfinder and I find them helpful for when you want to take pictures from above your head. Also, it is good to have a point and shoot and DSLR camera since the camera is bulky and not alway conveneint to carry around (party's and bars). The price of this camera has dropped considerably and now is a good time to buy this camera. I would definitely recommend this camera for someone considering buying a low priced DSLR.
