Guess what? It's cold walking all over a college campus like UNC. I knew this. My son is used to a small town where you park at the door everywhere and dash in. Now that the temperature has dropped, he has decided some warmer clothes are in order even though he absoluely hates to shop.

One of the best purchases was a Nike toboggan. Now, I know that's a sled up north. Here, in the South, that's what we call pull on caps for the winter. I'm not sure what they're called other places. And, the tag did not give any real clue as to what they want to call these cold weather hats.

The toboggan is one size fits all. The kid has a pretty big head, so I think it would work for most anyone.

This hat is reversable. One side is fleece and the other a sweater type knit. My son likes the fleece inside next to his head but will wear the toboggan either way. I'd go fleece inside as well since knit makes my hair have a lot of static (which it does in any case - just worse with sweater materials rubbing against my head).

The quality on the cap is good. Materials are plush. Stitching is solid. Logo design is excellent.

This is a collegiate licensed product. We got it at J.C. Penneys, but they also note the Nike web site on the tag. Since we're in North Carolina, this one has UNC as the color theme and the logo. I would guess they make the hats for most of the major state universities. The price is listed at $22 (high for a pull over cap), but it rang up around $16 at Penneys.

The kid likes the new warm hat for college, and I like the idea that he's dressing warmer.

I have heard them called toboggans also but then again, I'm in the south too ;+) If that is your son he is very charming. I have added you as a friend so I will now pick up with your reviews as well. Look out--I can be pretty creative with comments! BTW: I love your soundbite ;+) ~Gigi

I like the picture! Of course, you probably already know I'd like the blue hat as well....

I need to buy my boys these. They need a quality and warm hat like this. Not sending them to school in them though! They lose everything!

Funny... where I was raised, a toboggan was a long wooden sled upon which you slid down a snowy hill. This kind of hat was called a "took" (rhymes with "kook"). I never heard this style of hat called a toboggan until perhaps five years ago here in Virginia, and then I thought the store clerk who said it must have been one of those idiots that Jay Leno interviews in his "Jaywalking" segments. Silly me... I was the idiot instead!

Good review!
