I don't know why but I've always wanted a medicine ball. I've seen various exercises where it was used and thought it looked like a fun way to exercise. We finally went to Dick's Sporting Goods last weekend and found Nike's Medicine Balls in various sizes.  There were other brands as well but we choose Nike because of all the reasons explained in this review.

First off, I knew I wanted a 4lb or 6lb ball because I needed something that would add a challenge to my exercises without being too heavy too move.  I ended up choosing the 6lb ball for $30 because it felt like a good weight when I played around with it.  Of the 6lb balls, Nike's was the cheapest and still looked like very good quality.  You may think $30 is a lot to spend for a weight shaped like a ball, but once you use it, you'll see why it's worth it.

The Nike Medicine Ball has a textured rubber surface which makes it easy to grip.  This is great because once you really get into an exercise, it won't slip out of your hands.  It also has a finger groove which I didn't understand at first, but now that I've used the ball I can see how it helps me to catch and hold on to the ball.

The 6lb Ball is a bit smaller than a basketball and my husband jokes that it is a really heavy basketball.  It's going to keep it's shape for a long time even if you drop it!  I saw other medicine balls that were flexible and would not hold a shape on purpose, and I didn't like that.  The perfect round shape of the Nike ball is exactly what I need.

You can add this ball to almost any exercise to make it more challenging.  Do situps with the ball, toss the ball in the air and catch it, lift the ball over your head, or toss it back and forth with a friend.  It really takes your everyday exercises and adds a extra challenge.  Do a search online for medicine ball exercises and you will find a ton.  Enjoy!!
