Nights in Rodanthe —

Richard Gere and Diane Lane couldn't save Nights in Rodanthe.
I'll tell you right here, at the end of this review I'm going to tell you the worst thing that happens in the movie, so don't read all the way to the end if you don't want to know how it ends. I'm going to do that because my wife and I read a reviewer who said it has a happy ending. It does not have a happy ending!
The movie seems to be very disjointed, with several basic sub-plots, all of which kind of fizzle out rather than being developed. And since none of the sub-plots gets developed, the whole movie seems kind of unfinished. It's like watching the beginning of several different movies. It's also kind of like looking at a delicious-looking chocolate cake, and when you take a bite you realize they forgot to put sugar in! One big disappointment! And a waste of time.
Spoiler: If your idea of a happy ending is one where the main characters wait months to be together, writing love letters and longing for the magic day, only to have him die for no real reason, you'll love this movie. If you're so into angst that you enjoy seeing people agonizing over what could have been, you'll love this.
