Night at the Museum Review Summary

"Ben Stiller delivers again" in Night at the Museum. He stars as a "divorced father ... a guy who just can't seem to get ahead [and] takes a job as a night watchman at a museum" where it "takes on a life of its own at night." Reviewers find this film that costars Robin Williams and Owen Wilson to be "very entertaining and amazingly clean," making it a "great family movie." In addition to that, Night at the Museum is also "educational in some ways" showing the different displays from history. Some reviewers found that while they're not fans of Stiller's, used to seeing him in films like Tropic Thunder, they enjoyed this film more than they thought they would. "Ben Stiller and history go together better than you'd think.

In Night at the Museum, divorced father Ben Stiller, a guy who just can't seem to get ahead, takes a job as a night watchman at a museum of natural history in an effort to save his relationship with his son to show him he can make something of his life. The trio of retiring night watchmen, Dick Van… read full review »

While my husband and I are not total prudes, not by a longshot, we are growing weary of movies with gratuitous sex scenes, violence, and language just for the sake of it.  If you have a really good screenplay, there is just no reason for much of that and so we find ourselves watching more and more family and PG movies lately to spare ourselves the annoyance of it all. — This past weekend we rented Night at the Museum from Netflix and enjoyed it very much. — Night at the Museum is about Larry Daly, a down on his luck dad who is in dire need of a job.  His headhunter finds… read full review »

Have you always wondered what happens when the doors close at night in a museum? — The museum takes on a life of its own. Every history feature has a story to tell and Ben Stiller is there along for the ride.  — This is a very funny movie and I hope they come out with a sequel. —… read full review »

IT HAD BEEN A WHILE SINCE WE HAD ALL SAT DOWN TO WATCH A MOVIE AND I'M GLAD I CHOSE THIS ONE. THE WHOLE FAMILY ENJOYED NIGHT AT THE MUSEUM. IT WAS EDUCATIONAL IN SOME WAYS AND HAD US LAUGHING TOGETHER. THE KIDS WERE ARGUING OVER WHO WAS TAKING THE MOVIE HOME TO WATCH… read full review »

This movie was extremely funny...and I don't like Ben Stiller!  It was very well written and has comedy for both adults and children.  We laughed the whole way though it.  Robin Williams was a nice addittion to the cast.  I enjoyed the history lesson, and I think it is a good thing that the history was accurate.  I wouldn't call this movie educational, but it does give a few history lessons.  Ben Stiller does a great job in this movie, but I think the movie would have been better with Rob Schneider in the leading role, but again, I don't like Ben Stiller. … read full review »

I was fully expecting to hate this. Imagine my surprise when it turned out to actually be... well... awesome! A typical film about a father's effort to win the love and trust of his son is turned on its head (or on its side, at least) by a plot that revolves less around character development and more around DINOSAURS and COWBOYS and ROMAN SOLDIERS and the improbable. Sight gags abound here (Owen Wilson as a Scrappy Doo-esque cowboy is priceless), but the humor with which they're presented makes the whole thing palatable. The kids will love it for the chase scenes, adults will love it for… read full review »

this movie was recommended to me by my sister...enoyed all the action and a great list of stars.seems like the typical father who needs to spend more time with his kid movie, and they both get educated at the same time...about bonding and history...a lot of action and adventure.this movie told a lot about history from the beginning of time to different eras throughout time.the father needs to get a job , so he takes on a job as the night watchman in a museum.without giving away the whole story of the movie, strange things happen in the museum at night after the museum closes.also ,the… read full review »

As someone who likes to watch History Channel (well, the acurate stuff anyways) I got a real kick out of this movie. What's great is that my whole family enjoyed it: adults, teens, and younger children. We all found something to laugh about, and we all enjoyed the originallity of the plot. — Things that one might find offensive: a mild expletive or two, divorce parents situation and the ambiguity of the mom's new relationship (are they married? living together? just dating?); and references to evolution. One would have to be extremely picky to reject the movie just on those items,… read full review »

I found this to be a very interesting way at looking at history.  It started out slow with a loser man hard up for a job.  He finally found a job working a the Museum of Natural History.  You, the viewer, learn about history as you watch the film.  It is an interesting way at looking at history.  It kept your attention while keeping you laughing.  I was very pleasantly surprised.  Our entire family, from the youngest at 5 to the oldest at 80, thouroughly enjoyed the film.  It also made my daughter want to visit the museum - an added bonus.  It… read full review »

Wonderful family movie that everyone will enjoy. You laugh alot but you also learn alot that you may have known or didn't remember. A great movie for kids to learn things at an early age or to see that history doesn't have to be all boring. I'm not a big fan of Ben Stiller but he did a pretty good job in this movie. I think it woulda been good if the roles of Teddy Rooselvelt (Robin Williams) and Ben Stiller's roles would have been reversed. Robin Williams is great! Other than Ben Stiller being in it, it is a great movie. I recommend going and getting it now and watching it… read full review »

This was a great family movie. I am the mother of a 3 and 5 year old and they loved it. There are few movies that will hold their attention but this did through out the entire movie. I am picky about what I let my children watch, alot of cartoons are unsuitable for children. My husband and I also really enjoyed this movie. We have watched it many times. Robin Williams, Ben Stiller, Mickey Ronney, and Dick Van Dyke all in one movie, you know it is bound to be hilarious. —… read full review »

This was a fun movie for the family.  My kids (7 and 8 at the time) really enjoyed it.  It was fast paced, and they liked seeing the different people they learned about in history class.  It irritates me, though, that they had to throw a swear word in there.  It wasn't needed.  Our favorite parts were the T-Rex, the car they drove around in, and the cowboys and indians.  My daughter loved the whole Sacagawea thing… read full review »

My brothers and sisters couldnt wait to see this movie.  It proved to be very entertaining for them.  They asked questions about things that was on the movie and I was so glad to show it to them in books.  I would recommend this movie to everyone but especially parents.  Its very educational and kids get a kick out of actually visiting a museum and thinking that all of the things come… read full review »

As a big fan of Dick Van Dyke and a great lover of history, I had fun during this film simply remembering things I learned over the years as well as learning a few things I didn't while enjoying the twists and turns of the adventures.  Ben Stiller did a great job as did everyone else in the film.  I also enjoyed the special effects.  I eventually intend to add this one to my own DVD… read full review »

I found this movie highly entertaining. The majority of my kids did too. There was a little bit of everything in the film. Comedy, drama, suspense. Robin Williams is the best for comedy, I will see anything he stars in.  All the animals were great too.  The kids especially loved the monkey, he was hilarious!!  Overall it was really a good movie and kept the kids entertained.  … read full review »
