Comments about Niagara Conservation Toilet Water Saver - Fill Cycle Diverter:
In my recent quest to reduce my energy and water consumption to go a bit more green, I came across the **Niagara Conservation Toilet Water Saver - Fill Cycle Diverter (N3164)**. This little plastic doohickey connects to the file hose inside the toilet tank and diverts a portion of the fill water from going to the toilet bowl after the toilet is flushed. Typically the bowl is filled while the tank is filled and can consume quite a bit of water that is ultimately just flushed down the drain. While some water is needed in the bowl to help keep in clean and fill the trap, much less is really required than is typically provided by the average flush kit. There are 4 outlets on the diverter that allows some choice in the amount of water being diverted from the toilet bowl. Once this diverter is connected to the fill hose, slip it over the top of the drain stack between two of the outlets (1-3 can be diverted to the tank). Installing this simple little device doesn't affect the toilet flush performance can save up to 75% (half a gallon!) of the fill cycle water per flush. This can equate to up to 2,700 gallons of water per year (based on 0.5 GPF saves x 15 flushes/day). In addition, since some of the fill cycle water is being diverted back into the main toilet tank, it fills much quicker so that the filling sound doesn't have to be heard for as long as normal.
