As I was driving to a job interview a few days ago, I saw a billboard featuring Newman's Own Organics coffee for $1, any size, at McDonald's. As luck would have it, I got off the exit for the interview and there was a McDonald's. I knew I wouldn't have time to finish a large, so I stuck with a medium, cream and sugar. To my surprise, the coffee was a lot better than I thought it was going to be. To me, that means if falls above gas station coffee, but under Starbucks. I would rate it just below Dunkin Donuts, for less than half the price.
I really wanted to mention here that Newman's Own is the main name on the cup, but the coffee is actually "Sourced & Roasted by Green Mountain Coffee". On the other side of the cup is the following: "You know who loves great coffee? You. That's why Newman's Own Organics partnered with Green Mountain Coffee to bring you this special New England-style blend. [I live in CT] so not only does it taste great, but it's better for the world. And it's available only at McDonald. Enjoy."
The other point I wanted to make was the cup it is served in is Styrofoam wrapped in paper and covered with a plastic lid. So, the coffee may be better for the earth, but the cup sure isn't, unless they have come up with a new kind of Styrofoam and plastic that will breakdown in less than 100,000 years.
This coffee is not part of the McCafe line, it is regular coffee. Make sure not to say McCafe when ordering, or it will be at least twice as expensive.
Overall, the coffee was good, better than expected for $1.
