When I shop for electronics, I usually start by checking the internet to gather information. Then, armed with this information, I head to an electronics store so that I can see and try out the item. Once I feel I know more about my potential purchase, I retun home, logon to the internet, and check several sites to see if I can get the same item for a lower price. Most of the time, the internet offers a better deal and one site I have used successfully for finding good deals on electronics is Newegg.com, an electronics superstore.
Wweb Site Commentary:
Newegg.com is one of the better electronics web services and it is a web site I have been using for several years- both as an informational resource and as a place to purchase products. The product information is very thorough and it includes all sorts of information. When you browse for items, Newegg.com will present them in a list, complete with a quick summary of the item, the price, a summary of consumer ratings, and a place to click to add the item to your cart. Then, by clicking the name of the product, you will be taken to a product information screen that will tell you every piece of information imaginable. Product specifications, multiple images for viewing, manufacturer's home page link, phone number for customer support, consumer reviews, information on product rebates, and even take a "product tour" are among the many things offered at Newegg.com.
Product selection is very good at this site and many do not realize that the products offered at Newegg.com now extend beyond electronics. Things like cookware, microwave ovens, power tools, and more are available. This wide array of products is nice, but buyers should beware that these categories do not offer the greatest product selection, nor do they offer great prices. The electronics deals, however, are very good and very competitive and this is really the reason most people visit Newegg.com anyway.
With shipping, Newegg.com offers many different options, and one thing I like is that it lets you select your preferred shipping, enter your zip code to calculate the cost, and then open up the drop down menu showing the different shipping options to see the cost of the other choices. You don't have to re- enter your zip code and select a different option, one by one, like with other web stores. You can quickly make a price comparison and select the option that is most reasonable and practical for you. Based on my experience, the Fedex Overnight option is the costliest while the UPS Guaranteed 3- Day Service is the cheapest. Fedex also offers a three- day delivery option, but UPS is less expensive for my area. The only other cost component to a Newegg.com order is possible sales cost. If your order is shipped to California, Tennessee, or New Jersey, expect to have sales tax added to the bill. Other states are sales tax free.
Bottom Line Viewpoint:
Electronics shopping on the internet can be fun, but there are many electronics stores that are less than adequate. Newegg.com, however, is a very pleasant online electronics shopping experience and it ranks among a handful of online electronics stores that I have visited more than once and plan to visit again. A well- designed web site, competitive prices, excellent product information, and a good product selection make Newegg.com one of the best in its class.
