New York City Review Summary

Travelling Viewpoint Reviewers agree that you must visit New York City at least once in your life. Whether you are looking for museums, shopping, local culture, theater, or good dining, New York City has something for everyone – even the kids! New York City “is so wonderfully large and diverse, with the best cosmopolitan atmosphere in the United States”. While you are in New York City, there are plenty of places to visit including the American Museum of Natural History, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Central Park, the Statue of Liberty, and the Empire State Building. Looking for a place to stay? Check out the many hotels right in the heart of Times Square. “Make sure you get a ‘dog’ from a street vendor and a slice of NY style pizza!” or enjoy one of the many fine restaurants. So grab your whole family, or your closest girlfriends, or just your spouse and enjoy the city that never sleeps!

Looking for a great family vacation destination? One of the best trips our family has done with the kids has been a week in New York City. I have to admit I am a beachlover at heart so the big apple doesn't really hold a lot of appeal for me. I did enjoy the experience and agree everyone should go there at least once but it is easy to get lost and the subways are confusing and dirty. Cabs though are too expensive to really use. NYC is… read full review »

Some travelers prefer to grab quick street-eats or cheeseburgers from the closest fast food restaurant chain.  For those of you who enjoy crisp cocktails and off-the-beaten-path ‘fine' dining while on your urban getaway, but dread going to the obvious (tourist) choices, here is a sure-fire, New York City drinks + food itinerary:… read full review »

The Big Apple has been praised and pilloried, beatified and condemned and written about endlessly.  There is no dearth of books about what to do in NYC.  What makes NYC easy to enjoy is to remember we natives call it "a town" but NYC is really lots of small towns that just happen to be across the street from each other.  But, from a person who was born and grew up here and has lived in and around NYC for most of his life, I'd like to suggest some tactics for enjoying New York, mainly Manhattan. You don't have to bring a suitcase full of money, it helps, New York is expensive… read full review »

My good friend and I went to New York City for the Thanksgiving weekend. We arrived at JFK airport and took the airtrain and the subway to our hotel at 5th Ave. and 28th St. (at only $9.00 per person). We stayed at the Latham Hotel (4 East 28th St.) and it was a very nice european hostel type hotel. It was clean and the staff was excellent. The hotel was $168 per night, including taxes and was right in the center of Manhattan. — We enjoyed the Macy's Day parade on Thursday and shopping at Macy's on Black Friday. If your not a "crowd" person, I would stay away from both. There we… read full review »

New York is an incredible place to visit.  We went for a week this past January and we had a great time.  When most people think of NY they think of just the city.  We stayed in Poughkeepsie for the entire week and it was an incredible experience.  This was my first visit to NY so I wanted to see it all.   It isn't just ALL about the City!  Where we stayed we were surrounded by beautiful mountains and quaint little towns. Make sure you take a drive so you can see the surrounding area and don't forget your camera. We stayed in The… read full review »

Fun place to visit and take the family! We stayed at the Millenium Hotel, right in Times Square. What a great location. Right across from Good Morning America. Clean hotel and friendly, helpful staff. Make sure you utilize the Double Decker Busses. We were able to see so much more by purchasing the bus passes. Another great thing was the "Beast Boat Ride." We almost didn't make it onto the boat because we were so busy, but glad we did. This was the best part of our trip.  Flying across the New York Harbor at 45 mph was wild! Takes you right up to the Statue of Liberty and the staff is… read full review »

Besides being my Home for 38 years since 1969 . Is a great city . U can travel anywhere anytime . The city never sleeps 24 hour train service. The buses a little slower after a certain time after 12 am but u can go to the statue of liberty and see where it all started . Our pride of Freedom. Where u can't find in other places . Where Democracy is not their main concern but other political parties. No freedom of speech or Religion. For those who like baseball Yankee stadium in the Bronx or — Shea stadium. There are other main attractions but I'm a home person so I don't go to the city… read full review »

Something fundamental in NY changed after September 11. They don't curse anymore and are graceful and polite: I was born in NY, grew up in Tarrytown, and the NY I knew spoke English unprintable on a family web site, and did not say Hi! to anybody. — — New Yorkers y'know, speak y'know, a y'know, a kinda English, y'know, that GDMF tourists y'know, don't quite get, y'know what I mean. — — BUT: The NY I knew has changed: somehting about September 11th. — — People are really polite, really considerate, really caring and certainly don't talk with &*^# and… read full review »

New York City, New York is a great experience.  It's busy, it's crowded, it's a melting pot.  I was a little disappointed as I walked the streets.  It had a stench and the trash just spilled out over the sidewalks.  However, it was my first trip and hope it's not my last trip to the city in the BIG APPLE.  — I was overwhelmed by the crowd as I got out of Penn Station.  It's like in the movies.    The taxis were an awesome sight.  The streets were covered in yellow.  — You're not far from the Empire State Building, the news… read full review »

I visited NYC three times as a tourist before. And recently I had an opportunity to live there for 3+ months in the summer, 2007. As a tourist, I originally had a pretty nce impression about NYC. There are so many things to see and enjoy as a tourist in NYC. However, after living in NYC for 3 month in the last summer, my opinion of NYC has changed 180 degrees and I absolutely hate NYC now. This city may be good for a short visit, but is absolutely one of the worst place to live in the world. The living condition in NYC is one of the worst, not only in the US but also in… read full review »

If you have not  been to New York City in the past 10 years..you need to go back and revisit.  It has TRUELY changed from what you might remember.  There are less beggars + more visible police officers.  It is also kid friendly with  alot of stores catering to them.  The double decker buses are the best way to tour.  They are on and off stops at your own leisure and are very informational.  Forget about going to empire state building and make sure you go to top of the rock at rockerfeller center, it is much better. The bad news is it is still very… read full review »

I love this town. I have been taking my family on bus trips through the rec council for years and now have started to drive to New Jersey and take the metro in because the rec council just does not offer enough trips! We have gone in to see plays, concerts, go shopping, go sight seeing and just to walk and enjoy the city. We have taken the Gray Line bus tour- fabulous way to see lots of things, we have taken the boat tour, we have gone the Empire State Building, Central Park, Museums and Shops of all kinds. There is something for everyone in New York City and the food is fabulous,… read full review »

I can't believe the catastrophie's that the United States is experienceing. What is wrong with people? Everyone wants to have freedom but is not willing to do what it may take to get it or keep it. I just don't understand what this world is coming to. Well, yes I do. . . .due to my religious beliefs, the world will soon end. When I say END, I have no time line on when that might occur but the sequence of events that are occuring backs my belief in what my Bible… read full review »

As a child I used to go on family vacations to NYC.  I decided to take my three kids (ages 4,8, and 9) to the big apple.  It was just the four of us and we loved it.  New York is very easy to get around with the red tour buses and the people are very helpful.   We walked through Little Italy, Harlem, SoHo, Chinatown, Times Square and lots of other places.  It was enjoyable for me as well as the kids.  Can't wait to go back! —… read full review »
