New Moon (The Twilight Saga, Book 2) —

I recently read the book, Twilight, by Stephanie Meyer (read review HERE) and was instantly hooked on the entire Twlight series.  I couldn't wait to get my hands on New Moon and start reading!  I'm usually not a big fan of fiction books, and was pleasantly surprised at how much I LOVED the first book, so I assumed the second book (New Moon) would be even better.

I anxiously turned each page of New Moon, waiting to be swept away by the intense love that drew me in while reading Twilight.  Well......I'd say that New Moon, at least for a good part of the book, just left me waiting.

In the book, New Moon, Edward Cullen's character takes a leave of absence.  I'd say he is out of the picture for a good 3/4 of the book.  Bella is left in utter agony without him, and we read about her constant torment and broken heart.  Stephanie Meyer does a good job at depicting her loneliness and pain, but after awhile......it does get repetitive.  Bella's character begins to just seem so weak and pathetic after awhile.

In the first book, Twilight, we were introduced briefly to Jacob.  Jacob's father, Billy Black, is good friends with Bella's Father.  In the second installment of the Twilight Series, Jacob's character is the lead male.  Due to Bella's broken heart, she begins to spend a lot more time with Jacob, and Jacob & Bella become very close friends.  Their friendship is just what Bella needs to change her mood around, but it begins to feel a little like Dejavu, when Jacob wants more from their friendship and Bella is pulled between what is right and what is wrong.

How much danger can one girl come in contact with?  Jacob's life takes a sudden dramatic turn, and he is transformed into something that can put Bella in danger.  When Bella discovers Jacob's new identity, of course.....she is not afraid.  Bella is never afraid.  Even when her life is put in jeopardy.

Thankfully, towards the end of the book, Edward is re-introduced to the story and things do get a lot more interesting.  It's nice to have him (and the members of his family back). Bella is happier, but is put into even more danger as a new group of Vampires becomes aware of her existence and threaten her...even more bodily harm.

This book certainly did NOT have me on the edge of my seat like the first one.  New Moon was a book that I had to skim over in certain parts because it was just so dull.  Don't get me wrong, there were some very exciting parts that had me turning the pages quickly to see what would happen next.  It just wasn't the same as Twilight.

Again, this is a clean book, with no foul language, or sex scenes.  There is a slight bit of violence, but it would be an appropriate read for teens and even preteens.

Of course, I would recommend this book.  It seemed to me, that the purpose of New Moon was to set the scene for what was coming in the their book, Eclipse.  If you are a fan of the Twilight series, then you NEED TO READ THIS BOOK.  You simply cannot skip over this one, as much information is given and the details are something you WILL need to follow the ongoing story.

It seems there is a consensus about New Moon. It was hard for me to get into too. I ranked it fourth in the series. Eclipse is a lot better and I personally loved Breaking Dawn!! Keep reading! ~Gigi ♥

Nice review! New Moon was a hard read for me too. I wanted the same excitement and love story and Twilight, so I was extrememly annoyed at Bella, Edward and even Jacob. Out of the series, this book was my 3rd favorite. By far Twilight is the best for me, but other people like 4 the best - to each his own.
