I've been wearing New Balance for several years now, and I've wanted a pair of the plain grey and white ones for what seems like forever now, but since I wear a size 5, it's really hard to find shoes period. Then, while wandering around at zappos.com, I discovered the New Balance W595 for women in my size, and I bought a pair for $64.
New Balance has these in their 'classics' line, which I guess is supposed to be a cross between retro stuff and just styling it for modern times. I'm not majorly stylish anyway, I mean, I own 10 Old Navy tshirts in different colors and that's about how interesting I am. Anyway, these come in two colors, the grey and white, and a grey and black. I got the grey and white, and the toe and side area are a sort of microfiber sort of material, they have a mesh upper toe, all done in grey. The laces, edge around the bottom, and around the trademark N is white.
Now, as opposed to a running shoe, these are pretty flat sole wise and don't have the treads that running shoes do. These have more of a casual look to them as well, so I like to wear these shopping or something like that as opposed to running shoes. They do fine for long term walking too.
As for fit, I have a pretty narrow foot, and it's small at the same time, so having a shoe fit right in all areas is hard to get sometimes. This fits pretty well, and I don't feel it's too tight or too loose in any of the areas. But, if you had a wider foot, the toe area might be a tad tight I think.
These are great for casual wear, like running errands, or shopping but you look much more put together in these than just with running shoes on. These make for a nice, casual shoe, but don't rely on them as your sole running shoe. Mine have been pretty durable thus far as well.
