I have mild seborrheic dermatitis on my scalp so my dermatologist wanted to prescribe me steroidal and anti-fungal creams to help this problem. I try to avoid prescription medications (even topical ones) for the most part. When I went to the drug store to pick up my prescription, I asked the pharmacist if there were any other ways to help calm seborrheic dermatitis. She recommended taking a look at Neutrogena T-Gel Therapeutic Shampoo Extra Strength. I was willing to try this shampoo since the bottle did say that 99% of dermatologists recommend it for issues like the one I have. I also trust Neutrogena as brand. When I was checking out at the drug store, I remember chit chatting with the cashier and she told me how this shampoo had worked for her younger brother with eczema on his scalp. I am so happy I opened my mouth and took this recommendation. Neutrogena T-Gel Therapeutic Shampoo Extra Strength worked for me. It stopped all the redness and itchiness I would have on a daily basis. My hair dresser told me that the scarring on my scalp (due to me scratching) has really lessened as well.

At one point I had really bad dandruff in my hair, to the point where you could see the flakes even if you weren't looking close up. My scalp was really suffering from how much buildup I had. I even started to get pimples on my scalp that were quite painful at times, the were really hard pimples and very uncomfortable to deal with. I tried using regular dandruff shampoos and other clarifying shampoos but they didn't work. That's when I decided to try the Neutrogena T-Gel Extra Strength Therapeutic Shampoo. The Neutrogena T-Gel Therapeutic Shampoo really ended up helping my scalp. It took away the itchiness and pain I had right away. I could definitely tell that it got rid of a good portion of my dandruff buildup just from washing my hair and scalp once. My scalp stopped flaking, and it took a lot of the redness away as well. After a week or so of using this shampoo the pimples on my scalp started to go away. I was relieved. I also noticed from continuing to use this shampoo that I actually stopped getting pimples on my scalp. My dandruff is almost completely gone, and thanks to this shampoo I don't get it as bad anymore. I'm thankful that I tried out this shampoo because without it my scalp would still be suffering. I would definitely recommend this if you have terrible dandruff, psoriasis, or seborrheic dermatitis Effectiveness I could tell a big difference the first time I used this shampoo. It took all of the itchiness and redness away in my scalp. It got rid of the build up dandruff that I had. It also made the painful acne I had on my scalp go away completely, and fast. Scent This shampoo smells really strong, and medicinal. I actually really liked the smell because that's how I could tell it would work.

I have dandruff in the winter, which is highly embarassing due to my dark brown hair. I have trid other dandruff shampoos with varying results. I tried regular and then this extra strength T-Gel, and was very happy. The shampoo works after just one rinse at reducing dandruff. I highly recommend it. Scent You have to get used to it!

It is important to let the shampoo stay on your hair and scalp for several minutes before rinsing to feel the full effects of the active ingredients. The coal tar fragrance may be off-putting to some people, but it does not bother me. Coal tar is an old-fashioned ingredient which is effective in treating itchy skin and scalp.The menthol in the shampoo provides a pleasing, soothing, cooling, tingly effect on the scalp. Neutrogena T-Gel Therapeutic Shampoo Extra Strength is more expensive than other dandruff shampoos, but is more effective in handling more severe cases of dandruff, itchy scalp, psoriasis, and seborrheic dermatitis. This product has occasional coupons to help offset the cost of purchasing it, You could use a dandruff conditioner which may help camouflage the scent of this shampoo if the scent bothers you. Scent I like the scent, but it's not for everyone.

I had to use this shampoo when I had flaking.  It quickly cleared up after using this shampoo in less than a week.  My only complaint is that the smell isn't great.  They need to offer it in a more pleasant smell like berry or coconut.  Otherwise, the shampoo did its job more than other dandruff shampoos.

I love this shampoo for really helping to stop itchy scalp! I alternate between two shampoos because this can be a little hard on your hair if you have thin fine hair like mine. If you have dry itchy scaly scalp, this is a great product to stop that!!! I have tried the generic store brands and it is so worth it to pay more for a product that really works. This shampoo quickly (like after one use!) controls redness, intense itching and flaking of severe scalp conditions. It does have a strong smell, but that is not noticeable after you rinse it out and use a conditioner at all! It is gentle enough for daily use, but I like to switch between a shampoo recommended by my stylist and then use this every second or third day. It is also great if you work out and get an itchy scalp from sweating along your hairline. The extra strength contains twice the amount of the active ingredient as T/Gel original formula. I highly recommend this product!

     Every so often my skin on my scalp gets irritated, itchy and dry.  It comes in patches and scabs over.  I had just about lost hope of getting this under control, when I came across Neutrogena T-Gel therapeutic shampoo.  I began using this shampoo about ten years ago and have been very pleased with the way that it controls my itchy scalp.  I only use it when I have any of the symptoms and then I continue to use it at least twice a week until the symptoms are under control.  This extra strength therapeutic shampoo is a miracle worker.  It controls the itch and heals up the irritated section on my scalp and keeps it at bay.  The smell is very strong but once you see what it does for your scalp you will be pleased.  It doesn't over dry my hair, since it is a shampoo I just apply conditioner right after and that helps moisturize my hair.  I am so thankful that I found this wonderful medicated shampoo to help combat my itchy scalp issues.

My husband has problems with scalp build-up and dandruff as soon as it starts getting cold outside (so pretty much for half the year), and he's used this shampoo for a few years to help with that. He says it helps, but I haven't been so sure about that because he still gets tons of dry skin flaking off his scalp all the time. Maybe if your problem is year-round dandruff, this shampoo might work better for you, but for my husband it seems like he needs something that addresses the dry skin and scalp build-up better and actually gets all the flaky skin out of his hair. He's using the T-Sal scalp build-up shampoo now, but it isn't working any better (see my review on that)...so we're still looking for the right shampoo for him. Anyway, this shampoo really does help somewhat, so it might be for you if you have just minor dandruff problems, but it's definitely not the best for my husband considering that it doesn't totally work and costs so much.

My scalp had been itching; and I couldn't figure out what was wrong.  I didn't have dandruff; and I couldn't see anything on my scalp.  My husband suggested that I look for T/Gel in the store and try it. I purchased the Neutrogena T/Gel Therapeutic Shampoo Extra Strength--there is also a Regular Formula.  I followed the directions on the bottle; and with the first use I could feel it working.  Within a week my scalp itch had diminished considerably.  I had made an appointment with the dermatologist but cancelled it after the first week of using T/Gel. T/Gel Extra Strength is good for controlling redness, intense itching and flaking of severe scalp conditions such as psoriasis, dandruff and seborrheic dermatitis.  If you are using any other psoriasis therapy (such as ultraviolet radiation or prescription drugs), check with your pharmacist before using this product.  Do not use for an extended period of time without consulting with your physician; and check with your doctor if your condition does not improve or gets worse.  In rare instances T/Gel Extra Strength may discolor gray, bleached or dyed hair. T/Gel Therapeutic Shampoo Extra Strength is alcohol-free, starts working with the first use, and keeps working after the shampoo is rinsed off. Maybe T/Gel is the solution to your scalp problem.  It was for mine!
