Neurontin was initially prescribed to treat seizures in those suffering from epilepsy.  Its use has expanded to treat people suffering from neuropathic pain, bipolar disorder, migraine, and multiple sclerosis (MS).

I began taking Neurontin before it became available in generic form (Gabapentin).  My neurologist at the time told me that it was a "wonder drug" that had proven immensely helpful in combating certain symptoms of MS.  Several years later, I would say that it hasn't exactly been a miracle or without side effects, but it has greatly reduced my nerve pain, spasticity, and chronic paresthesia (otherwise known as the pins-as-needles sensation).

Everyone who lives with MS learns that the disease takes many different forms.  Certain symptoms will be a recurring problem, while other potential MS symptoms will never come up in a particular individual.  Early on in my disease progression, it became apparent that nerve pain, sensory disturbances and spasticity would be continual challenges for me.  Before I began taking Neurontin, my legs were constantly attacked by buzzing, pins-and-needles sensations as though an army of ants were crawling through my limbs.  The spastic pain from leg muscles that wouldn't relax was also a big problem.  I still have those issues, but not nearly as extreme as before.  Neurontin really does a good job of taking the edge off of my symptoms so that they are at least tolerable.

In my case, I don't have a lot of side effects from taking Neurontin three times per day.  It sometimes makes me a little dizzy, and it always makes me a bit tired, which is a problem since I already suffer from MS-related fatigue.  Most days I feel pretty exhausted, but I appreciate that the level of pain, burning, and buzzing sensations has been turned down.  It's worth that side effect for me to have some symptomatic relief.  I just have to be diligent about getting plenty of rest.

Overall, I wouldn't classify Neurontin (Gabapentin) as a miracle drug, but it does have a good reputation of symptom relief in MS.   As they say in the commercials, "Ask your neurologist if it's right for you."

I'm glad that this works for you. I took it for my Fibromyalgia and it made me feel like I was "spaced out". I couldn't handle it at all.
Lyrica is based and closely resembled after Neurontin. It works for many, many people!
Great review!
