In all honesty, Netflix is one of the greatest commercial creations anyone has come up with in years. The idea of getting up, going to Blockbuster, fighting through traffic, weather, and crowds, just to rent a movie that you then have to get back up, and fight through traffic again just to return it was not very appealing to me, or, apparently, many others.
Netflix takes that horror and removes it completely. For a flat monthly fee, Netflix mails you DVD movies, and includes a prepaid envelope for you to mail them back. The fees are extremely reasonable (ranging from $5-$35), all depending on how many movies at one time you wish to be able to have out (the 3 at a time plan is the most popular, at about $17-$18 a month).
I've been a Netflix member for 3+ years now, and have had very little dissatisfaction. Yes, sometimes they are slow in turning things around, but that has gotten immensely better in the last 18 months or so. Yes, new releases can be hard to get, but eventually, once you learn the system and how to work it, it's not that bad (hint: they mail Tuesday's new releases on Mondays, so if you can time it to get a disc back to them first thing Monday AM, you have a great shot).
Their selection is excellent. And it's not just movies. They get just about every TV series known to exist on DVD, they have a huge inventory of older movies and classics, as well as sports and music DVDs.
I can't recommend Netflix enough. Give it a shot, you won't regret it.
