I had considered subscribing to Netflix for a while but was worried about service and lost and broken disks so I kept putting it off. Finally after discussing the Dead Like Me TV series with a friend who also has Netflix I was pursuaded to take the plunge and I'm so glad I did.
I knew I'd never find Dead Like Me at my local video store and that I'd never be able to watch all 16 episodes in 3 days so I subscribed to Netflix 2 years ago and never looked back. We have the 3 at a time unlimited plan which is about $20 a month. Movies arrive in my mailbox, I watch them, put them back out in the mailbox and the mailman takes them away. Two days later (sometimes the very next day) the next movie in my queue arrives. Fortunately we live only about 75 miles from the distribution center here in Michigan so the service is very reliable. Twice in 2 years has Netflix emailed me stating that I'll receive a movie the next day but it arrived a day late. With the number of movies I rent from Netflix, I feel that that is pretty good service.
During all those rentals I received a damaged disk only once. I sent the disk back to Netflix the very same day after reporting the issue online and I received a replacement the following day without any flack or fee.
Netflix's selection is excellent as well. There is only one time that I searched for a movie that they didn't have which surprised me a bit. I love their system that suggests movies based on what movies subscribers like. I recently watched a really great movie called Danny Deckchair that I never would have given a second look but Netflix thought I'd like it based on the fact that I loved Waking Ned Devine. And they were right. Danny Deckchair was an awesome movie. It's great to have that tool that suggests other movies based on movies that I liked.
Besides the selection and convenience the other thing I love about Netflix is that there are no late fees. It's so nice to be able to rent an entire season of a TV program and not have the "omg I have to watch all these and return them in 3 days" monkey on my back. That's not enjoyable. But keeping the series for 2 weeks or as long as I want IS enjoyable. No more monkey on my back. No more dashing off to the video store in my pajamas to return disks on time.
I love Netflix. Long live Netflix!
