Like many movie buffs whose home is equipped with a gadget to play DVD's on, I have long ago succombed to the siren song of Netflix!  For a little more than $10 a month, I can rent two films at a time (very handy if viewing a two-part film) and there are no late fees, no matter how long I hang on to my rentals.  The DVD's have nearly always been in good condition, with one minor exception where a scratch caused a bit of a problem.  A couple have somehow been lost in the mail on their way to me but I was not billed for the replacement of these films and another one was sent to me immediately with an apology from Netflix.

Netflix has an amazing variety of films for rent, including many of the great old film noir flicks reviewed by George Chabot.  On top of all that, they have just called to my attention a great gift idea, another holiday blessing which you won't have to wrap ... gift subscriptions to Netflix for three months (under $30), six months (under $55), and (if your friend has been really good) a whole year for under $110.

MY SUGGESTION:

An attractive red and white gift greeting card is enclosed with this offer.  If you purchase a gift subscription for a friend, sign the card (indicating the amount of the gift), pop it into a bright red gift bag and add a box of microwave popcorn and a selection of movie theatre sized candy!

In response to GigiandAdonai's comment from Dec 23, 2008 at 12:38AM:

Oh, the rental thing is going strong. There are always certain films that you can buy of course, and I buy some, but if you rent from Netflix, you have access to 40,000 some films -- some of them offbeat and things I haven't heard of before. I've found a lot of neat stuff by rentig that I wouldn't have learned about on my own but the real reason I rent is that I just don't have enough room for a DVD collection that would include every thing I like. I'm glad you and your bro have that arrangement about the DVD's, it seems to be working out for everyone. Well, Gigi, I'm going to stop now and eat my cereal and do a few more things! Thanks for reading my reviews but please don't wear yourself out. Eat something special for lunch! Take care! :+) AnnaB

My family buys all of our movies. I'm not sure if I know anyone who rents. I have a DVD collection that is out of this world. My brother and his wife buy the movies and after they watch them they loan them out. Whoever is the first borrower gets to keep the movie because my brother and his wife don't like to collect/shelf movies. I usually get dibs on movies that I have been waiting for. Okay, go ahead and say it, "She is so spoiled." Yeah, I know ;+) ~Gigi
