To the Point
My husband, hannasdad, has been using Neil Med Sinus Rinse for a long time. There are other brands but he will only use this one. He got me to use it several months ago. I’m still getting used to it!
A Closer View
So what is this? Actually rinsing your nose is getting press. In fact Oprah had a segment on it. Nose rinses can be bought in various ways. We currently (though would consider using what is called a neti-pot www.neilmed.com) buy a box of 100 pre-mixed packets for about $14.00. However we first each bought a kit for about $12.00 which comes with an 8-ounce plastic bottle with a top. It is this top that goes in one nostril and the mixture comes out the next (really).
You can see this product and buy it at a variety of places including http://www.amazon.com/Neilmed-Sinus-Rinse-1-kit/dp/B000A0S5KC/ref=pd_sim_hpc_1/105-4271233-9456457.
You’ll read that it is a “therapeutic, saline nasal irrigation and moisturizing system; that it is soothing, pH balanced, with no burning or stinging. You’ll read that it is preservative, iodine and latex free and that it has a custom designed cap to fit any nasal opening."
So why use it? It is said to help with allergies, dryness, congestion, and post nasal drip. Hannasdad has congestion and I have dryness.
I have found that it stings me but it doesn’t sting him. Perhaps because my dryness makes my nasal passages more sensitive. It’s a simple formula of USP Grade Sodium Chloride and Sodium Bicarbonate Mixture – essentially salt mixed with water.
Do I notice any major improvements? Not really but I feel in my gut that it may be helping me and on some level I guess it seems that rinsing out my nose is a good thing to do.
