After having both of my dachshunds on Nutro Natural Lamb & Rice, I switched to Flint River Ranch Puppy & Adult Kibble with recommendations from many of their all natural, human grade food. Flint River was really good, a bit expensive, but good - however, apparently my dog Cooper has an allergy to chicken. He started losing his hair all down his back and his belly.
Although Flint River has a non-chicken recipe - I took recommendations to try Natural Balance and I can say that I've never been happier! It's easier to get at PetCo or PetSmart (Flint River was online only), I get coupons all the time for it, and they also make wonderful dog treats and cookies with the same high quality ingredients! I don't feel that the Natural Balance is expensive - but it's definitely not inexpensive.
Both my doxies eat every bit of their food each day (something that never happened with either Nutro or the Flint River) and their stools and stomachs do just fine. I use to have to mix pumpkin with their Nutro to help their stools - that went away with the change to Flint River and is just as good with the Natural Balance.
I didn't even know who Dick Van Patten was - so his name didn't matter much to me as a consumer. I am simply thrilled to find a good, quality, available food that my dogs love and it loves them back!
Lucy & Cooper eat the Potato and Duck mixed with Sweet Potato and Fish. I also give them the Oatmeal and Cranberry cookies.
