Good choice for dog with allergies

4

We've used this dog food for years because our dog has sensitive stomach issues that seems to be related to food allergies. We haven't had a problem since using the Natural Balance venison & sweet potato mix. My only complaint is that the consistency of the dry pellets varies. As our dog is older and has had some teeth removed, we've started crushing the food and mixing with water to make it easier to eat. With a couple bags we've bought, the pellets were a bit hard to crush. The dog food is a bit on the expensive side, but for a small breed dog, like ours, that hasn't been a big issue. Quality of Ingredients No allergy trouble, food pellet consistency (hardness) varies. Our dog has been quite healthy for as long as we've used this food, so I can't complain, otherwise, about the quality of the ingredients. Flavor Selection After years, our dog still seems to love it. We haven't switched to other Natural Balance flavors because of our dog's sensitive stomach issue.

Good food but didn't work for my dog

4

Earlier this year my year and a half old dog started having digestive issues that left both myself and our Veterinarian stumped. We stopped giving her any treats and started feeding her a Prescription Diet that she did OK on but was super expensive. So I started to look for a similar food and that when I found L.I.D. Limited Ingredient Sweet Potato & Venison Dry Formula, it was cheaper then the food she was on but not by much. I slowly started mixing some of the Natural Balance food in with the Prescription food, I took it very slowly trying not to upset my dog's stomach. As soon as we were up to mixing the foods 50-50, a couple days after we started mixing, she started having diarrhea again. We slowed down the incorporation of the Natural Balance food and tried again but got the same results as before so I returned the remaining of the bag to the store for a refund. It's great food but just didn't agree with my pup's system. Quality of Ingredients The quality of ingredients are great better then a lot of the dog foods out there and is ranked pretty high on pet food sites. Love that fact that it was grain free! Flavor Selection Natural Balance has an excellent selection of flavors in both the dry and wet formula. Not to mention all the treats they have.

Miracle solution for my little girl with big allergies.

5

This was a miracle solution for my little girl with big allergies (chicken, duck, grains, etc.) She's so happy on this food because she likes it so much, and all of her rashes and itching have completely disappeared. I tried some other brands first but Basha liked this one best. Natural Balance knows how to make the tastiest foods apparently. I did my research before we bought and appreciate knowing that their testing policies are impeccable and that consumers can go to their website and enter their bag number to make sure it's safe. I trust this food and Basha's health and happiness is proof of the quality.

We learned a lesson

2

Our beloved Golden Retriever was plagued with skin allergies - raw welts that appeared, at times, over much of her body. We could clear her condition with antibiotics, but the welts would reappear, causing her to try to itch herself incessantly. On the advice of a friend, we switched to one brand of organic dog food, which went ok for awhile, but it didn't keep the welts from coming back, and frankly, the dog just wasn't that interested, despite adding meat and vegetables. It seems we tried everything in the organic/natural dog food selections, and none solved the problem with the skin condition. Finally, after discussing the issue with a staff member at a local pet food supply place, we tried the Natural Balance brand. I wish I could say that it worked, but unfortunately, it didn't. At this point, our dear dog, nearing age thirteen, was starting to have other health issues. At the advice of the staff member, who wanted us to eliminate all treats and foods added to the dog food in order to determine what food our dog was allergic to, we resolutely began giving the dog only Natural Balance. It was heartbreaking to see her turn away from her dog dish, showing absolutely no interest in this food. The treats made by Natural Balance were of a bit more interest to her. We tried three flavors of Natural Balance, and none made a difference. I am not saying that this is a bad product, nor are the others that we tried. However, seeing her get thinner and thinner, and losing strength, we succumbed, and starting giving her anything that we could get her to eat - hamburger, turkey, etc. I feel others with elderly or ailing dogs can learn a lesson here - don't try and force an issue, keep the dog's age and condition in the forefront and add to their quality of life, not detract during their final time with us. We got our money back, but not our dog.

I can garantee a clean bowl when my dog is fed Natural Balance!

I have a ~1 year old Boston Terrier. I began feeding her Purina and Iams puppy blend formulas. My husband and I noticed she was itching and scrathing ALL the time, her fur began to fall out, and she had sore under her legs, on her belly, under her collar and severl other places in which she scrathed a lot. Following steriods, dips, other medications, and a LOT of money spent at the vet's office, we sent off lab work to test her blood for food allergies, which are common in this breed. She was allergic to several products present in most doog food and dog treats includind beef, eggs, chicken, turkey, and several others. Finding a food which was delicious to her, didn't break the bank, and was able to contain her allergies so that we didn't spend every week at the vet's office was easy when we began feeding her Natural Balance Limited Ingrediant Diet and Limited Ingrediant Treats from Natural Balance. She LOVES the Sweet Potato and Venison dry dog food from Natural Balance and she gobbles it up quickly after it is placed in her bowl. I am satisfied knowing that she enjoys the foos, it is healthy for her, keeps her allergies at bay, and her coat has grown back and it shiny and beautiful!

Allergen-Free, but not fuss free

My vetrinarian recommended this for my cocker spaniel, who suffers from grain allergies.  I love this food for its formulation and concept of catering to dogs with such allergies.  Unfortunately, my dog does not share the same opinion.  Perhaps she has grown bored with the flavor (granted, she has been eating the same thing for quite some time).  I have added the canned food to the dry form to make Abby's meals a bit more appealing, but my finicky little eater does not always comply. This is the third flavor in this line I have tried in the four and a half years Abby has been in my life.  I first tried the lamb and rice (that proved inappropriate due to allergies), then there was the duck and potato (that did not keep the ear infections at bay), and now we are on this one (as I have said, I like it, but Abby is growing bored).  I am trying to make it more interesting, by adding rice and broth, I may just change the amount and feeding schedule...but, ultimately this is a good food for those of our four-legged companions with grain intolerance.
