Natural Balance Fish & Sweet Potato Formula Ultra Premium Dog Food —

I started feeding my dog Natural Balance dog food after reading an article that rated various brands of dog food. Most store bought brands rated below 60 out of 100, mainly due to their use of filler that is hard for dogs to digest. Natural Balance received a 92 out of 100.

Natural Balance comes in several flavors and formulas, but the one I chose for my dogs was a grain-free formula (also called limited ingredient and allergy friendly). Corn, wheat, and other products like this are hard for dogs to digest, and can lead to problems if the dog has an intolerance. Since one of my dogs already had allergies, I didn't want to feed her food with added allergens. After sampling all the flavors (the dogs, not me), they seemed to prefer the Sweet Potato & Fish formula.

Since putting my dogs on Natural Balance, I've seen a marked improvement in their coats- thicker, shinier, and softer. I've also seen less waste in the yard- this right here is evidence that this food is full of ingredients and nutrients that dogs can digest and process. Since my smallest dog is 95 lbs, you can imagine how thrilled I am that there is less to clean up!

This brand is on the high end of the price range for dog foods, but it's well worth it. Depending on the formula, prices seem to range from about $45-$55. A happy dog is worth the extra money!

There are two drawbacks to this brand. First, the largest bag is 33 lbs. I have several large dogs and they go through these bags in 8-10 days. The other problem is with this particular flavor. Sweet Potato & Fish tends to smell a lot like fish. Personally, I can't stand the smell (the other formulas don't have this problem, just the fish formula), but the dogs love it!

I have never had a problem finding Natural Balance in stores. It's not sold at Target or Walmart, but is sold at Petco, PetSmart and other specialty pet stores and feed stores. If your store doesn't carry it, ask that they do. You won't be the only one buying it!
