Does not work to stop chewing.

1

My dog Derby used to chew through everything in sight. He was a big boxer, so you could only imagine the damage he used to do in the house. He used to chew on furniture, the carpet, doors, shoes, his leash, his dog bed, and anything else you could think of. We used to go through dog beds like hot cakes because he would always rip them to pieces. I decided to get the NaturVet Bitter Yuck hoping it would work and get him to stop chewing up everything. I was happy it was safe to spray on any sort of furniture or fabric because it's non-staining. I sprayed the bitter yuck on the couch, his bed, leash, and anything else my dog liked to chew. Later on I found my dog still chewing on everything like he was unaffected by it. It seemed like everything I sprayed it on my dog would still chew it, so I doubt it was that bitter and yucky, because he didn't mind it at all. He would still bite and drag his leash around the house, and outside even though I had sprayed it. I was mad that I even sprayed it because after holding it, it made my hands smell awful. The only one that seemed affected by the bitter tuck was me. It made everything I sprayed smell absolutely horrible. I couldn't stop inhaling and tasting it. I couldn't get the smell or the taste to disappear no matter what I did. It took forever for the smell to disappear, and I just had to wait it out, because no matter what I sprayed it was still there. I would not recommend this buy this because it didn't stop my dog to stop chewing, and it made me feel really sick for days. Quality of Ingredients The Bitter Yuck is only made out of purified water, a bitter agent (rosemary), and sodium bicarbonate. These are all good ingredients, and there is nothing in here that could be harmful to a dog. They are all really simple ingredients, and aren't very bitter, so that's probably why they didn't work. They should have used some sort of sour green apple flavor like they put in sour candies, that might have worked. Side Effects It is a water based spray, and doesn't have any sort of alcohol in it, but it smells awful. It didn't work either. My dog didn't mind chewing right through it. It's not going to burn your dogs eyes or throat, or anything else like that. I find it smells worse to humans then it does dogs.

NaturVet Bitter Yuck! No

I have a six month old puppy that loves to bite the leash. I tried many different training methods to get him to stop but nothing worked. I then decided to try a product that stops chewing. I did not try NaturVet Bitter first, I tried several other products but they didn't work at all, he didn't seem to even notice that I had used anything. Unfortunately my puppy will eat just about anything. Luckily the pet store where I shop has a great return policy. So the first two products that I tried, were easily returned. I sort of felt like these types of sprays weren't going to work but I was willing to give it one last try and try the naturvet bitter. The next time I got ready to take my puppy for a walk, I sprayed the leash with the bitter spray. I loved that it wasn't sticky or greasy and it didn't stink. It was easy to apply to his leash and it left no mess at all, but would it work? We started walking as usual, and after awhile he went to jump up and bite the leash. He bit it once and stopped instantly! I was really encouraged by this, but I still wasn't sure it had worked. After a little while longer he tried again and once more he bit the leash once and then stopped. He hasn't bit the leash since then!

Bitter Yuck is yucky!

1

I've used Grannick's Bitter Apple Spray with much success, but when my local store was out of it and all I could find was Bitter Yuck, I gave it a shot. Bad idea. Not only is it ineffective in stopping my dog from grabbing its leash, it leaves a nasty smell in the air that I couldn't stand breathing. If you're unfortunate enough to get a little of the spray on your hands, it's difficult to remove and will likely mess up the rest of your day. Never again - I'll wait for more Bitter Apple to return to my store. Quality of Ingredients Bitter Yuck is apparently just rosemary in a water-based solution with sodium bicarbonate. Although it has no alcohol (a plus), the rosemary was completely ineffective with my dog at preventing chewing and licking - he just wanted more. Maybe it's effective for others, but it was a huge disappointment for me. Side Effects Horrible, lingering smell for the humans to breathe, and the dog could care less.

Keeps Dog From Chewing Up His Leash

4

We bought Bitter Yuck! to keep our dog from chewing up his leash.  We went through two leashes (in 6 months) before we decided to try this, and it worked like a charm.  In addition to the expense and risk of injury that come with having a dog chew up his leash, there is the issue of obedience that concerned us enough to try this product, as our dog has the bad habit of taking the leash in his mouth and pulling when he doesn't want to do what we want him to do, or when we don't go as fast as he wants us to go!  We tried the Bitter Yuck! and immediately our dog stopped taking the leash in his mouth, stopped chewing on it, and stopped trying to be the boss while we are out for a walk or run.  He has learned his lesson that the leash tastes terrible, and walking and running with him is much more fun for everyone!    One word of caution:  Bitter Yuck! tastes terrible, so be sure to wash your hands after handling something that you have sprayed!  Everyone in our household has learned this lesson the hard way, after coming in from walking the dog and somehow putting fingers in mouths!  Maybe our dog is smarter than we are, afterall, as we've all done it more than once!

Bitter Yuck is bitter but doesn 't stop the dogs.

I sprayed Bitter Yuck on the cat litter, and it still did not derer the dogs from gettting into the litter box.  This product did not work for me.  When you spray it you get it on your hands, and believe me it is bitter.  Don't waste your money.

This product saved my baseboards!

Bitter Yuck saved my baseboards when my puppy was going through his teething stage! I love that it's water-based and clear, so it didn't stain my white baseboards, and if ever (God forbid) my boy gets hurt, I can use it on his wounds since it's not alcohol-based (which stings!). Highly recommended!

Bitter Yuck is only yuck for you not your pet

My husband and I bought this in hope of preventing our new puppy from eating our couch or anything else. Our puppy ended up getting to the blankets before the Bitter yuck was delivered so my husband and I was twice as happy once it arrived. My husband sprayed it on the couch where the blankets were laying before the dog got to them. He sprayed the Bitter Yuck all over the couches. This was a horrible idea. Not only did spraying the Bitter Yuck make our taste buds flare (negatively) but we could not get the taste off our hands. Our dinner after spraying the couch was ruined because all we could taste is bitter yuck. We thought since it was so bad for us it must deter the dog from the couch. This is false! The puppy tore the couch to pieces. The BRAND NEW couch was ruined not only from the puppy eating it but from the horrible taste that would get on your hands if you touched the couch! We tried again when he was chewing his paws at one year of age and it only made him chew worse. He still licks the yuck of the remainder of the couch.
