I was a 20+ year customer with Nationwide and my father has had Nationwide coverage for 40+ years. I have unfortunately been involved several accidents and all have been fairly cut and dry as the other driver's fault. I will add the caveat that here in Charlotte there is a horrible mix of drivers. In most other places I have driven people drive in a like manner and you can predict what someone may do. That's not the case in Charlotte! It's so bad here I once pulled off the road to prevent the person behind me from hitting me and they pulled off all just to make sure they did. Any way, with almost any other insurance agencies they seem to want to resolve the issue as quickly as possible and to your satisfaction, with Nationwide I have had claims drag out over a year when it was a simple collision claim, and I was their customer and they could care less if I was satisfied or not! What finally drove me to leave Nationwide was an incident where a pizza delivery guy was speeding in my neighborhood; he came around a curve and barely clipped the rear of my car as I was pulling into my driveway. He then shot across the street and hit 2 of the neighbor's cars parked in their driveway ripped the wheel off his truck and totaled it. The police show up and look things over and make their report (in Charlotte they are too chicken crap to assign fault). In a few days we get the accident report and they assign fault to both parties, the pizza guy for speeding and me for unsafe turn I disagree but because of the explanation I got from Nationwide did not fight it. The adjuster from Nationwide said in NC the law is, if both parties are at fault you pay for yours, he pays for his and you go on your way. Fine with me (not happy and still think he is 100% at fault for going 70mph in a 25 zone), there was a scratch on my bumper and a busted tail light that I took care of. End of story....wrong.

1-1/2 years later (Nationwide's slow claims worked for me in this time) I get my renewal notice and my premium had gone up about 80% I was shocked and had no idea why it had gone up. I called agent, Johnny Morgan (who inherited my family's account from a good agent that retired and we were told we did not have choice who it went to) and talked to the receptionist and she said it was due to the accident you had back in 2005. I ask to speek to Johnny (he wasn't there) but finally caught up with him a few days later. He explained what happened. In NC there is a insurance arbitration board that hear disputes, the pizza guy's insurance disputed his claim for the totaling of his truck so Nationwide agrees to this and they go before the board and the ruling is because they feel bad that the pizza guy's insurance had to pay for the other 2 cars he hit them mine should have to pay for his totaling his truck. Now I busted a tail light and had a scratch, that did not total his truck, but what the hay we'll just pay for your 1978 Datsun pick up and get Mr. Sucker here to pay more that that increased premiums and all us insurance company's win! Oh by the way Mr. Sucker we didn't tell you anything about any of this going on or get your side of it. And old Johnny Morgan was just okay with all that and said in so many works tough luck just pay me!! That's when I left Nationwide forever!! Future customer you were warned!
