The National Centenarian Awareness Project (NCAP) is a non-profit organization founded in 1989 that "celebrates active centenarians as role models for the future of aging."

What you can find on the web site:

  • Additional information about the NCAP and future plans
  • A blog that features various centenarians that have interests as varied as networking on Twitter, playing bridge and watching basketball
  • Printable calendar that features a different centenarian each month
  • Behind the Scene information on a Barbara Walters ABC Special about living to be 150
  • Personal interest stories, photos, and videos of various centenarians--I found these to be particularly uplifting and interesting. One particularly intriguing quote came from a centenarian who said, "I've been bowling regularly for 93 years. I don't think anyone else can say that." I also thought it was interesting to see that several twins have reached triple digits together.
  • They also have memorials for those centenarians who have died
  • You may also sign up a centenarian you know--they must be at least 99-years-old

My Viewpoint:

I think it is easy to think of older people as frail and often sick, but this website was very uplifting and encourages readers to celebrate great accomplishments of centenarians--not only the great feats of their past but also the many contributions they are making today. If you would like to learn more about the National Centenarian Awareness Project Web Site, I recommend that you copy and paste the URL address at the top of this review and see the site for yourself.

How nice to have a family member almost make it to the century mark. I find it hard to imagine living that long, but I also used to think that people in their 30's were old... Thanks for reading!

This is so cool! My "Granddaddy" Jeffcoat passed away last February right before his 99th birthday.
