Nasonex Nasal Spray —

Nasonex Nasal Spray is a prescription medicine that must be prescribed by your doctor.  It is used for the treatment of seasonal allergies, and helps to reduce nasal inflammation.  When I learned that I had nasal polyps several years ago, my doctor suggested I try Nasonex to reduce their size.  And it worked!  My polyps are no longer a daily issue, and when they do begin to bother me, I just use the Nasonex and it shrinks them back down.

Aside from being effective on nasal polyps and seasonal allergies, Nasonex is also helpful in treating nasal allergies that are caused by pet dander, dust, and pollen.  I have two dogs and a cat, and I love them to death, but the can flare up my allergies.  By using Nasonex when I feel my allergies acting up, I am able to prevent a full blown allergy attack.

Before using Nasonex, it's a good idea to blow your nose gently.  Be sure to prime the bottle before your first use.  You do this by squirting it once or twice into the air.  You'll see a steady stream omit from the bottle.  After the bottle has been primed, insert the Nasonex directly up the nose.  Don't place it at the edge of your nostril, you'll need to insert it far up so that the medication is distributed towards your sinuses.  A typical dose of Nasonex is two squirts in each nostril.  If you feel the medication running down your nose, you haven't inserted it deep enough.  It may take you awhile to learn exactly how to use this product, so don't be discouraged.

You will begin to notice relief of your allergy symptoms within a week or two after first using Nasonex.  After you have begun to use it, however, you will notice consistent relief and should continue taking it until your allergy symptoms have subsided.

As far as I know, there isn't a generic formula of Nasonex.  With my BCBS health insurance, I pay a price of $ 35.00 for a bottle.  That bottle contains about a month worth of medication.  However, if you don't use it every single day in the month, it will obviously last longer.

Unlike oral medications that can be used to treat allergies, I'm not aware of any drugs that interact with Nasonex.  I've never had any side effects from this medication either, although it is possible to have them.  It's important to speak with your doctor about the risks involved with taking this and all other medications.  Remember to NEVER take another person's prescription drugs.  Always see a doctor first before trying a new medication.

The only CON that I can think of with Nasonex, is that it's hard to know how much medicine is left in the bottle.  Usually, when you begin to have trouble squirting it out, that's an indicator that you are running low.  It would be nice if the bottle had a clear area on the side, so you could see the remaining fluid inside.

If you suffer from allergies of any kind, or have nasal polyps like I do, I would recommend speaking to your doctor about trying Nasonex.

Good review, Jasyjen! My symptoms are relieved without much of a waiting period. Nasonex is particularly great because there is never the rebound effect found with most over-the-counter nasal sprays. Do you ever ask your doctor for samples? Mine is very good about this, and I saves some big bucks over time.

This is some good stuff. When I was diagnosed with seasonal allergies (pollen and ragweed) the doctor put me on this. Only thing--it made me drowsy so I could only take it in the evening.
