Every sport has its own type of collectibles from hats and uniforms to helmets and balls or bats. Nascar is no different in that respect and we collect all sorts of things. My son in law bought a tire from Kasey Kahne last year at Indianapolis, yep a real tire from his car during the race. I don't collect tires but I do have quite a collection of stuff from both Dale Earnhardt Sr and Dale Jr.

Nascar Diecast

There are 3 basic sizes that most collect 1/18th, 1/24th and 1/64th scale cars and haulers. There are also many different makers of these die-cast collectibles. I have a few Winner's Circle die-cast cars, but most are MotorSports Authentics. There are cars that are also banks and then there are the ones with opening hoods, flaps (on top of car to help prevent going airborne) working suspensions and trunks that open.

Most have all the details including accurate engines and drive-trains, the more valuable collectibles also have serial numbers. Some are unlimited productions where they supply all they can sell and then there are the limited productions that bring top dollar a few years down the road. They even have some that are Gold or Platinum plated that go for more than I can afford...lol

Then you have 2 versions of the cars, the first being what it looks like when it rolls off the truck and what it looked like after the race. I have Dale Jr.'s raced version form his 2004 Daytona 500 win. It has all the tire marks on the side of the car as well as the borrowed red wheel he had to get on his last pit stop.

I also have the Black Tribute #8 that looks just like his Dad's Black #3 that he raced in 2007 at Talladega Speedway. For those not familiar with Nascar Dale Sr. was killed in 2001 on the last lap of the Daytona 500 protecting the lead of Dale Jr. and Michael Waltrip. There are special collectibles of Dale Jr.'s Black #8 that have serial #'s on them and are selling for as much as $500.

I collect mostly the 1/24th scale cars which are about 8" long and I have them in display cases to protect them. Most range in price from $39 to $69 although the Winners Circle ones that sell at Walmart (nothing opens on them) go for around $20. There are some of Dale Sr.'s cars that are selling in the thousands but they are signed versions and are authenticated to be actual signed ones and not a stamped copy of the drivers signature.

My collection includes 5 1/24th cars, 2 1/18th cars and 9 1/64th cars from both the Cup and Busch series of Nascar. I also have 2 1/64th car haulers and 4 1/64th remote control cars from Dale Sr. and Dale Jr. To most people collecting what some call toys would be silly, but I enjoy collecting them and have them proudly displayed in my Family Room.

Bottom Line

No matter what sport you are a fan of we all collect some kind of memorabilia from our respective sports legends. My grandchildren will inherit my collection when I am gone and I hope they enjoy it as much as I do. There is no mistaking who I root for in Nascar after all its plastered all over the Family room, or as the Wife calls it "Ron's Nascar Sanctuary"

you're welcome, yep when it comes to a lot of the retired or deceased drivers ebay usually has them. Just be sure to get it from a power seller with a good rating. Good Luck! ;)

Awesome thanks Ron. I think I even check the Petty website years ago and they didn't have a thing.

ebay has some Adam Petty stuff! Yes I watched the race and it was great, Dale Jr. placed in 9th. I was hoping to see him sweep the week there ;( Ron

NASCAR is the best sport ever. Did you catch the Daytona 500? I had to settle on reading the lap by lap on the internet. Ugh! Unfortunately ever since my favorite racer (Adam Petty) passed away I have had such a hard time finding race gear for him. If you ever see anything for him let me know.

Awesome collection! I have a couple of Nascar flags that we fly when camping on race days! They are my favorite next to my LSU flags :) This will be a great collection to pass on to the grandkids!! Karen

Thanks Patty, my sister is still into wrestling big time, she is a Hulk fan. She got close but never did get his autograph ;-( We used to go to matches together about 20 years ago. We even made the newspaper with a pic of us in the front row screaming...lol

Great collection. NASCAR is a big collector's favorite. I used to collect wrestling figures back when I actively worked in the business but I only kept three and the rest are Lord knows where now. I kind of lost my zest for wrestling although I still work in the business writing. Great review!
