The movie Nancy Drew is based on the hit series of books by the same name.  Nancy Drew is a teenager who has been hooked on solving mysteries for as long as I can remember.  I grew up reading these books and loved them.  They were creative and entertaining and I quickly became hooked on mysteries.  The movie was no disappointment at all.  In fact, it was better than I expected and entertaining for the 99 minutes this movie lasted.

Synopsis

Nancy Drew finds that her Dad has been transferred to Los Angeles and she is not very happy about that.  He decided to let her pick out their new home and she finds a gorgeous old mansion that was once owned by a beautiful and popular young actress.  And that is what sold Nancy on this house---the actress was found dead on the property.  The rest is history, as Nancy takes on solving the case of what really happened to the star.  But she is having to do this undercover because she promised her Dad that she will no longer solve mysteries.

There is a cameo appearance by Bruce Willis that is pretty interesting.  I found it to compliment the script and to be an appealing scene.

My Viewpoint

Nancy Drew is played by Emma Roberts, who you may remember from the movie Aquamarine.  Her character in the books is a bit nerdy and this carries over to the movie.  She is not the typical teen who dresses wildly and listens to loud music.  Instead, she dresses very conservmildatively and looks more like an all-american girl.  She has a boyfriend but not many close girlfriends--they all think she is weird.   Emma Roberts does a great job with this character, she is a perfect fit in the role of Nancy Drew.

I liked the character of Corky, who befriended Nancy in Los Angeles when others shunned her.  He has a crush on her but hangs around enough to get involved in helping her with solving the mystery--this is a perfect way to spend more time around her.  He is quite comical and brings some humor to the movie.

There are lots of other interesting characters in this movie.  I won't go through and name them all because I don't want to give the entire details of the movie.  Just be on the lookout for some "colorful" types of people.

The mystery isn't a hit you in the face one which allows you stay interested in the movie and involved.  There are several twists in the movie and enough creepiness to keep you entertained but not frightened out of your skin.

I would recommend this movie as a family movie that both kids and adults would enjoy.  It is rated PG for some mild violence. but should be fine for kids age 8 and up.

I recently watched the first set of the three Adventures of Young Indiana Jones volumes and saw an interesting story in which Indy was dating the daughter of the writer behind both the Hardy Boys and Nancy Drew. Seems that the names of the "authors" were pseudonyms...(The young Indy series always had the future archaeologist meeting real historical figures in his fictional adventures....)

NO, no hardy boys movies, I already have a teenager saying every guy in sight is "hot" too bad the wholesomeness of Nancy didn't rub off on her, but it was an adorable movie which we watched 3x before returning to store.

Yeah, it wouldn't surprise me at all and I also bet there well be more Nancy Drew movies on the horizon.
