thanks to the the nuk nipples my son is sleeping a lot more sound and waking up from gas pains a lot less. Some how this nipple not only reduces the amount of gas takin in by my son, but also allows enough air to enter the bottle to allow a constant flow without having to suck harder.

NUK First Choice Orthodontic Silicone Wide-Neck Bottle, Slow Flow are great bottles to use.  We bought one set of them to use when I went back to work and pumped milk.  They are easy to clean and we just washed them with a bottle brush and warm, soapy water and then boiled for five minutes to sterilize them. We chose them because they were said to be supportive of breast feeding which is what I did at home.  They claim to reduce colic and help baby's teeth develop properly.  This seems to be true.  Our son took to the bottles quickly and would switch between breast and bottle effortlessly.   The NUK air system has vents in the bottle so that there is no vacuum build up and the baby drinks milk rather than air.  I also liked that they are BPA free and come in many great colors. They are affordable and even after using for a year and a half, they are still in good condition and we plan to use them for at least another child or as long as they hold out.

My daughter had bad gas when she was very new, and also was not a good nurser, so I often had to pump and put expressed milk into bottles. NUK bottles were the only ones that didn't cause awful, horrible gas. They have a little air flow button that if you keep it towards the top, it is supposed to cut down on the amount of air the baby sucks in, and I truly believe this works. My baby also had acid reflux, and we had to thicken the milk with rice cereal from the time she was 5 weeks old. She was too little for most fast flow nipples from other bottles, but she had to have bigger holes to get the cereal through. We found that NUK nipples were the only ones with bigger holes...most of the other brands of bottle we had simply had MORE holes. Fast flow was 3 or 4 little holes versus one. Other brands either made it too difficult for her to suck the thickened milk out of, or the milk shot out so fast that she choked. I now have the NUK bottles in 2 different sizes (the 5oz and the 10oz) and nipples ranging in size from slow flow to fast flow. These are the ONLY bottles we will use and the only ones that she has zero issue drinking from.

This was the only nipple that my exclusively breastfed baby would take. However, we used (and still use, at 10 months old) the slow flow nipple. That was fast enough, and I liked that baby still had to work to get milk out, like he would when nursing. The Gerber Nuk nipple seems to prevent baby from swallowing air, and his saliva mixes with the milk in the nipple for more natural drinking. I really like how his mouth stays open at the base of the nipple. This is the most similar to breastfeeding, and he never had any nipple confusion.

The Gerber Nuk bottles were a lifesaver for me when I was nursing my son.  He took to the NUK nipple right away and took his first bottle at one week.  It was wonderful to be able to have my husband give him on expressed bottle every evening so that I could get a little bit of solid sleep.  Some nights I even got 6 or 7 hours before getting up for the middle of the night feeding.  The styles of bottles are limited, but are very cute.  They have pink flowers, blue ships, and green dragonflies.  I feel like I'm using boutique bottles. This will be very helpful since we are having a little girl soon and I'll be able to just add a few pink bottles to the green ones that I had with our son.  The wide necks make it really easy to clean with a bottle brush and feel like I'm really getting them clean.  The nipples are removable from the ring also.  We put our bottles through the dishwasher also and the designs on the bottle still look like new.  These are very good quality and I expect them to last through at least 2 more babies.
