As an older new mom, I hear lots of advice from all my friends and family that have had children before me, but it's what my doctor said when I described the problems we were having with my baby that made the difference.  My baby was spitting up a lot and it turns out from too much food - we were over feeding her.  She always wanted something in her mouth... and we figured she needed a bottle.  He suggested we try the NUK Newborn Orthodontic Pacifier.  We already had a bunch of other pacifiers that didn't seem to work, but since my doctor recommended it, we thought we'd give it a try.  I was amazed at the difference this pacifier made!  She was content and that made us all happier.  I found that NUK Pacifiers come in different colors and different sizes to accommodate their growing needs.  I was never a pacifier advocate, but this has worked wonders for my daughter.  I would recommend this for anyone with a child who needs a little calming influence.  The pacifiers from the hospital just didn't do it for us. ****

This was not the first binki that I used with my daughter. We started with the one that was highly reccommended and didn't really like it, so switched to the NUK. I liked the binki, my daughter took it easily and  had no problems. She is breastfed so I wanted a pasifier that was closer to "natural" and this seemed to be fine. The only issue that we had with this particular pasifier, and we bought two packages and had the same thing happen with both, was that when I would boil them to sanitize/strilize them the nipple would allow water in. Once the nipple had water inside of it, I was able to squeeze most of it out and after about a day the rest was pretty much gone. So, it was a pretty small issue. Our daughter was pretty small (5 pounds) and because of that her mouth was also small. Many binkins, including the one from the hospital, were too long and would gag/choke her. The Gerber NUK pasifier was the perfect size for a newborn and for quite a while after!!

My daughter was born prematurely, and had an under-developed sucking reflex. She would cry and have difficulty falling to sleep, and we tried early on to use pacifiers. She would not be able to hold any of the pacifiers in her mouth for a long period of time, so they did not help her soothe herself to sleep. A friend had bought me a NUK pacifier for a baby shower gift, so one night we tried it, and she was able to not only keep it in her mouth, but she fell asleep with it and slept for 4 hours, which at that point was our longest stretch. We have since bought several more NUK pacifiers, and have been given other brands, and she consistently likes the NUKs and spits out the others. The shape of the NUK is more like the nipple, so her use of the NUKs actually helped us develop her sucking reflex, which in turn allowed us more success in nursing. I LOVE these pacifiers.

We tried a few pacifiers and found this one to work the best for our baby.  I like that is has a small profile, so that it doesn't completely cover his face like some brands do.  It is also one of the lighter weight ones of those that we tried, and I think that it helps him to keep it in his mouth.  Some of the heavier ones tended to fall out to the side almost immediately.  He also seems to like the nipple shape better than the straight kind. This seems like a small thing, but it's also nice that it comes in several colors.  It helps me keep things straight - if one is dropped, I have an easier time remembering not to use that one again if I am interrupted before I can get it to the dishwasher. If I had to pick a downside, it's that water or saliver can get trapped inside the nipple.  Therefore it makes that classic pacifier squeaky sound, shich can be counterproductive when I'm using it ot get him to fall asleep.
