NEOSPORIN Scar Solution —

I had surgery a few months back that left me with significant scarring. (you can read about my Highland Park hospital review here.) My surgeon recommended that I use Neosporin Scar Solutions to help reduce the appearance of my scar. He told me that in his opinon, this was the only product that works. We talked about Mederma too, but he didnt like that (he said it was all about pressure to the incision and applying a topical 3x a day isnt reasonable)

I quickly ran to the store and bought up a package of Scar Solutions (there was only one on the shelf in my Walgreens!) On the package, it says that it is good for burn victims, clinically proven and a three months supply. Total cost: $35. Seemed pricey but worth it.

What are Neosporin Scar Solutions?
Basically, it looks like a band-aid with silicone on the other side. It is very sticky and can be worn for up to 3 days (not in a shower or bath).

How does it work?
Simply peel tha back like a band-aid and bingo. You are done. You can also cut them to get them into the shape that you may need for unusual scarring.

Does it work??
I actually do think it works. And, in fact, I think it works on both new and old scars. (scars within 2 years). It decreased the visibility of my c-section scar. Impressive. They are still visible, but much more reduced that I would have thought. (I wish they were gone, but it isnt a miracle drug!!) With that being said, if you have a large scar, this is definitely not a couple of months supply. I am going through a package a month. Also, I think they last about 2 days and then fall off. In addition, if your scar is on a joint, plan on it falling off almost instantly. They just arent that sticky!!

My experience with similiar products to Neosporin Scar Solutions
After I went through my first package, I went to buy more. It says you should use them for up to 3 months. I could not find any. I checked Walgreens, CVS and even little drug stores. I ended up buying the CVS brand and I liked it a whole lot more! It is way more sticky and adheres to the skin for a lot longer. It is also about $10 cheaper.

Overall, if you have significant scarring, try Neosporin Scar Solutions. It does work! (apparently it is the pressure to the incision that works!) And, if you are lucky enough to have a CVS around, I would opt for their private label brand. It actually worked better for me and it was cheaper. I like the sound of that!

Thanks for the heads up. My surgeon told me to buy these. Interesting. Will check it out.

There is only one brand that has the professional quality silicone scar sheets it is called ScarAway. They are much better than the old Neosporin. They stay on much better and come in a small size and a long size. They are the only ones that have the Silon that hospitals and surgeons use...the cvs and neosporin were a lesser quality..try Scaraway..it works great...you'll be very happy

I have ugly scars from heart surgery, I became allergic to the stiches and my scars are about 3 times the size they are suppose to be! If this works, I might be willing to try it! I hate feeling like the woman who was experiemented on my aliens! (Thats what I tell people when them mention the one on my arm!)

Thx for the info! I had an appendectomy about a month ago and was also told that Neosporin's scar solution was my best option, but I haven't been able to find it, either. I'm going back to my CVS to get theirs.

I have so many surgical scars I hate to think of the cost but I hate the scars more. Thank you Julie

Thanks for the advise. I wanted to try but didn't want to spend the money if it didn't really work.

Thanks for the excellent advice! I would never have guessed that the generic would have worked better.

Yikes that really is expensive! But I guess if it works, it surely is worth the price.
