At one time or another, I think all infants have trouble with gas (not to be confused with colic).  Mixing formula, certain foods, drinking from a bottle - any or all can be a culprit but the result is the same; when the baby ingests the air, uncomfortable gas usually follows. For years I have recommended Mylicon Infants' Gas Relief Drops and I used them with my own son with wonderful results!

The drops work very quickly by breaking down air bubbles and fewer bubbles means less gas. This product works very quickly and is free of dyes and alcohol. The package states that a dose should be squeezed from the (enclosed) dropper slowly into baby's mouth or mixed with a bottle. I have found that adding the Drops directly to the bottle to be the more effective way; it reduces any foam from mixing and keeps foam from forming during drinking. This way also lets you make sure your baby is getting the medication, rather than spitting it back out. Because the medication is not absorbed into your baby's system, dosages can be repeated as needed at mealtimes and bedtime so long as you do not exceed 12 doses per day.

Cost and Availability
0.5 oz - $8.79
1.0 oz - $14.99
In the baby section at most pharmacies and grocery stores.

A Couple Tips:
- Original Mylicon Drops are exactly the same as the dye free version, except they have red dyes added.  Be forewarned - the dye stains everything!
- Simethicone (Mylicon is the brand name, simethicone is the drug) is sold under that name as a generic drug at many pharmacies. Check that the concentration is approved for infants (20 mg per each 0.3 mL dose) and if it is, you can save some money.  If you have any doubt, check with your pediatrician.
-  Adult versions are available and just as effective if mom & dad need relief. Look for Mylanta Gas.

The Bottom Line
Expensive but very effective!

Hi also from Michigan! This was a nice review. we only used this kind of stuff (different brand) a couple of times but it seemed to work pretty well. ~Carrie
