Pros

appeals to young bloggers, accounts are free

Cons
appeals to preditors of youngsters, difficult to use, most webpages are cheesey, full of spammers, full of creeps

Younger members of my family talked me into getting a MySpace account. They each have a page in MySpace and numerous 'friends'. They blog and have a great time. So in the spirit of family unity, I signed up.
*
I've a family full of artists, so their 'MySpaces' are nice places, but they are the minority...
*
I found the building of 'My Space' surprisingly difficult and very un-user-friendly. It is very easy to make your text unreadable to others, a trap that many people using MySpace fall into. There's lots of glitter applications to make the websites look like hurricane ravaged scrapbooks.
*
Many 'Spaces' have loud music blaring. If you make the mistake of leaving your speakers on, you could loose your hearing.
*
There's lots of boring to more-intimate-than-you-wanted-to-see images of Space owners exposed to the public eye. Most don't have the bodies of supermodels.  The censors are kept hopping.
*
Then there is the Spam.  The Spam is relentless.  Advertisers hit your mailbox constantly.  If your lucky, they want your money.  If you aren't, they want your identity and offer you a gift-wrapped virus in return.

In response to Meredith's comment from Dec 3, 2007 at 6:11AM:

The virus problem from various sources got so bad that I had to switch operating systems: from Windows to Linux. Linux has a long learning curve, but for every 40,000 viruses passed around Windows, there's perhaps 40 Linux viruses. Linux doesn't respond to Windows viruses.
