With money being tight and with so many movies coming out on DVD, I just wait. We own a movie projector so it is like having our own theater right in our home.
Some movies I would highly recommend seeing that have come out in 2008-
Twilight, I read the books and actually didn't wait for this to come out on DVD, though after seeing it I almost wished I had. Maybe I am a big tight with my money, but being frugal now days isn't such a bad thing.
Wall-E, saw this on DVD. We loved the movie shorts that were on it almost as much as the main movie. Superb movie for families with kids of all ages. We also loved watching how they did the sound effects for this movie as well as movies Disney has done in the past.
Kung Fu Panda, great movie for families with all ages. We saw this in the theater, but we are lucky that where we live they do cheap movies from time to time.
Alex Rider, Stormbreaker- Not sure when this movie came out. I have children between the ages of 9 and 12. We like to read books that have been turned into movies. This was one we discovered via the local library. Great source for DVDs though sometimes you have to wait quite a while for a recent release.
Ice Age- This is one as a family we could watch over and over, Scrat is the funniest!!
Mulan and Shrek- Eddie Murphy is the best when it comes to voices for children's movies!
Because of Winn Dixie- This is another book we read with the kids then went to see the movie.
Spiderwick- We didn't read the book series for this one, but we enjoyed the movie quite a bit. Since we have a projector, we made a movie screen for the outdoors and invite friends over in the summer. This was one of the movies we watched.
Some chick flicks that I could watch over and over- The Notebook, The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants, 13 Going on 30, and How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days. (My husband has a scientific term for these movies: chic-flickus-makeus-puke-alotus)
We are currently reading The Boy in Striped Pajamas and recently read The Tale of Despereaux. We are going to go see Despereaux in the theater over the Christmas holiday and will wait for the DVD of the other one. I am sure we will enjoy them both, but The Boy in Striped Pajamas is for a family with older children.
