Music Submit.com —

I have used MusicSubmit.com on occasion to promote my CDs. They are a service where they maintain opt in contacts in your musical genre and submit your information to them. The typical rate is $100 for 400 contacts, although they do sales. I've purchased 250 for $34.95.

The musician upload a picture, up to 4 MP3 musical cuts, biographical information, a press release, pictures and a video. Musicsubmit then sends it to that number of contacts in your genre and tracks your acceptance. The contacts include reviewers, online music sites, netradio staios, radio stations and others.

On it's face, there are a lot of negatives:

1.  it can be a passive strategy. My acceptance rates have been well less than 10%
2.  Somce acceptance contacts are not worth accepting. One example is netradio stations that require artists to sign away royalty rights on music submitted.
3.  There are typically 3 - 5% dead links out of every submission.

However, these cons are really rather minor, if the musician wants to put in work for promotion.

First, Musicsubmit replaces bad/dead links 2 to 1 bad link submitted, at least for me

Second, I've gotten great results from resubmitting by private email to those organizations that did not accept for whatever reason. I've gotten many requests from radio stations and reviewers, just by doing that. It's a matter of getting full value for my money

Third, the musicsubmit package with the embedded player really looks great and the submission package can be emailed to outside contacts or can be put in an email as a link.

Reporting statistics are maintained

As an independent musician, I need to get buzz and pub without spending a tremendous amount. Certainly, time is a factor but the time I spend validating musicsubmit contacts and soliciting them a second time if they do not accept initially is time well spent, especially since most of the links musicsubmit has meet my needs, as opposed to having to surf the net to find them.

So, I can recommedn them. They are a good service, if the musician is willing to out in time to identify bad links and do folllow on work.
