I didn't know this even existed until I went to turn on my favorite radio Jazz  station, Detroit's Smooth Jazz V98.7 and discovered that it was Gone!

I hit the net looking for answers and found a written  Blog full of Shocked! jazz fans. One fan gave and answer, Smooth jazz have gone to HD2 Radio!

Clueless, I searched  the web and found that HD2 Radio is a New Digital upgrade for Radio and is supposed to give listeners an improved listening experience.

Fm will now sound like your'e  listening to a CD, and Am will now have the qualities Fm radio once had.

Now,  I just have to buy a new radio system  ( HD2) radio to experience all of this, including my Smooth Jazz station. I have not investigated price yet,  I was to busy being upset!

It seems like every time you turn around you need to change or upgrade something or you will lose out!

What do think?   Has this happened to you?  Does anyone have this new system? If you do, do you like it?  What about the price/s? are they reasonable?

I don't know about the term "HD2"... from what I've seen, it's simply called "HD Radio." If you look at the car stereos in Walmart or Best Buy, you'll find plenty that have HD Radio tuners. Just be careful that you do not buy one that's labeled "HD Ready." That means that the radio has a jack into which you have to plug another piece of equipment to receive HD Radio stations. It's better to buy a stereo that has an integrated HD Radio tuner. Be careful with this step, as it is easy to get confused and think that an "HD Ready" stereo is ready to receive HD Radio stations. They aren't.

I've seen integrated HD Radio car stereos for $120 or so, from good manufacturers like Sony, Pioneer and Kenwood. Walmart probably has the best prices, although it will be hard to get good advice at Walmart. If you want to go with a great online retailer for this kind of gear, I highly recommend Crutchfield (www.crutchfield.com). Crutchfield will give you free instructions on how to install the stereo in your car, and the instructions are excellent.

It's a brave new world out there for radio... lucky us!

Thank you! bkovacs, I new  there  was a knowledgeably, helpful person, out there that could shed some light on this!

Thanks a million for explaining the difference's  between the HD ready and the intergated HD radio tuner, I would not have known that there was a difference.

Thanks also for the web and price info too. You would make an excellent sales man.

You're welcome! For others who are wondering what "HD Radio" is, it is a new standard for digital radio broadcasting. Up until the last year or so, all radio broadcasting was analog. With HD Radio, it uses a digital signal and can squeeze multiple channels on a single station. Therefore, your favorite station may also have a news feed and an all-talk feed, for example.

I'm not super knowledgable about HD Radio but I have skimmed a couple articles on it. I plan to get a car HD Radio receiver soon.
