Muse have been described as many things, but the best way to describe them would be intelligent progressive rock music that blends different genres of music including classical, jazz, metal, and pop.  They incorporate many different guitar and bass effects which truly keep each track fresh and different than most bands nowadays.  A handful of tracks feature prominent piano sections, which even more displays the versatility in their rock sound.

This is Muse's 3rd studio album, and with it, they show even more evolution in their continually developing and progressive sound.  The album must be listened to completely through from beginning to end (at least once!).  The compilation and arrangement of track order is powerful and has a great flow.

The opening track, "Apocalypse Please", pretty much sets the tone for the entire album.  It's bombastic piano and driving beat are complimented well by the apocalyptic lyrics declaring the end of the world.  The following track, "Time Is Running Out", is catchy, poppy, fun and almost jazzy.  The juxtaposition in the tone and mood of the first two proper tracks characterizes the album well.

Absolution is full of rich musical sounds and diverse influences.  I find it hard to compare the sound of Muse to any bands, but musicians, and those who play the guitar seem to especially respect their song writing and musical abilities.

Muse are legendary live and standout tracks on this album include "Hysteria", "Butterflies & Hurricanes", and "Stockholm Syndrome" which has become a live finale for many of their concerts.

Overall, this is an exceptional rock album, that many modern rock fans would enjoy.
