Murray State University Review Summary

Murray, Kentucky is home to Murray State University, one of the lesser- known universities in the United States but also one with high academic ratings. Reviews of Murray State University emphasize the academic credentials of this school, as well as its beautiful campus, friendly people, entertainment, and student involvement. “Murray State University is a Great College” in the mind of one reviewer and another follows by saying “It Was the Best Experience of My Life” and “A Well Kept Secret”. A few reviewers have pointed out the inadequacies of the campus housing and others point out the lack of outside entertainment in the small town of Murray. After graduating high school, I decided I was too good to go to a local college, so I moved to Louisville.  I attended a very expensive private college there, and after 2 years moved back and transferred to MSU.  I have to say that for the money, MSU is an excellent school.  I would further say that I wish I didn't have such a big head and cost myself so much unneeded tuition money.  I should have just went to MSU.

It's hard to believe, but my daughter is going to continue the tradition of Murray State University this fall.  She is the third generation to attend Murray State and she is very excited!  Both my husband and I had a fantastic experience at Murray and we both got a top notch education.  We have 2 other family members that continued their education after Murray at medical school and both have very successful practices now!  I've had job opportunities presented just because of where I had obtained my degrees.  Not only did I complete my undergraduate degree, but after taking a semester off,...

I chose Murray State University because I had friends that attended and were very pleased. MSU is a very close campus, not spread out everywhere which I really liked. The staff was very friendly and eager to help. I felt very safe on campus and there is a low crime problem. I do not drink so I did not have a problem with the town being "moist." A moist county means that they sell alcohol at some restaurants but not in stores. That is not to say that many students didn't go across county lines to bring alcohol back, but at least there weren't liquor stores on every corner! The dorms are clean and...

I am a late bloomer.  I went back to college when my son was in high school.  I chose Murray State University.  I has had wonderful reviews and been rate as a very good school for people going into to education.  I am a special education teacher who teaches the primary level.  Murray is a wonderful school.  Murray State University has great professors.  All of my professors have been very helpful to me.  I got my undergraduate degree, my Masters degree and am now working on my Rank I at Murray State.  The Rank I  is thirty hours above your Masters degree.  The classes are reasonably...

I am a senior at Murray State University.  Throughout the years I have heard complaint after complaint from other students from different universities about what they didn't like about their university.  Sure Murray isn't all roses.  I have had my share of professors that I didn't like.  However, the positives outway that negative.  The campus is beautiful and is constantly being kept up and/or improved.  For the quality of education one receives you definately get more than your money's worth.  They offer a regional discount on tuition for surrounding areas which is helpful.  In-state... read full review »

Murray State provided me with tremendous life skills.  It was a small school so not very intimadating to a new student but yet provided a wealth of opportunities.  You would walk through campus and see people you knew each and every day.  It was a friendly and inviting atmosphere.  Sure, it had parties that were fun but yet it wasn't so much that distracted from the point of being there-to obtain an education for a professional career.  If able, I would like my child to attend Muray State.  I was a second generation graduate and hope my son can make it a third!

I feel like the staff and faculty at Murray State University truly care about me and my education. Currently I'm working towards a bachelors in Psychology and the staff in this department are kind and encouraging. Murray offers degrees in all fields of interest from education, art, history, sociology, and so much more. The beautiful campus is located in a cute small town in Western Kentucky with tons of southern charm. I would suggest to anyone to go to Murray State if they are interested in furthering thier education in supportive enviroment.

As an alumni and the father of a junior at Murray State, this has to be one of the best kept secrets in getting an affordable and excellent college education.  The staff is helpful and truly cares about the students and the costs are amazing compared to other colleges.  Having twins in college, I really appreciate Murray compared to the University choice of my other child.  I recommend that everyone look at what Murray has to offer.

I visited here with a couple buddies of mine and had a blast.  Everyone was friendly and the campus and facilitiy was great.  I checked out some of the dorms and they were a lot nicer then where i stay at the University of Kentucky.  Also being an active member in a fraternity greek life and most of the houses were fun and nice.

Murray State was like a home away from home. They highly stressed customer service and treated students as people and not a number. The faculty was amazing and always searched for ways to enhance the student's experience. There is so much to do and ways to get involved. My only regret was not staying longer!

I had reservations about attending college in my hometown, but ultimately it was a great experience. Small class sizes. Personal attention. Experienced faculty. You will get a great education at Murray State University. It has a beautiful campus and is still small enough that you can really get to know most of the people you are attending school with.

From a cons perspective, it is a smaller school, so attendance and enthusiasm for the sports program is not that high. The college is located in a dry county and Greek life really took a turn for the worse while I was there. Overall a lack of enthusiasm...
