Munchkin Munchkin Bath Toy Canister —

My daughter has had this Munchkin Bath Toy Set for about 8 months now. I picked it up one day because it was only about $10.  I can't remember what store it was that I bought it from but I have seen this set at stores such as Wal-Mart or Target and I have even seen it at grocery stores. The price is about the same price everywhere.

In this set, there are 52 letters which all happen to be lower case.  In my opinion, I think this is better because my daughter has learned all her letters already but with them all being lower case, she doesn't get confused when there are upper case and lower case together.  She knows all of her letters if she sees them all in uppercase but doesn't know a couple in lower case.  If she has a jumble of upper case and lower case together, she gets confused.  Also, at least this way, if you need extra letters, you can make extra since they are all lower case.  Like the n and the u.  They can be used as any letter.  It's the same with the b and the q and so on and so on.

There are also 20 numbers.  There are 2 of every number from number 0 to number 9.  The number 10 would have to be made with a 1 and a 0 obviously.  Also since there are so many numbers, you can make quite a few different numbers!  All the letters and numbers are in the colors of purple, yellow, blue, green, orange, and red. Each letter and number also has a really cute design on the front of them too. There are palm tree designs, water wave designs, seashell designs, polka dots and a few others.

There are also 12 sea creature pieces in the same colors and designs as the letters and the numbers.  They are really cute!  There is a turtle, octopus, 2 different fish, dolphin, sea horse, crab, otter, whale, shark, squid, and a starfish.  There are a total of 84 foam pieces.  All the pieces are approximately 2 ½ inches by 2 ½ inches.  Some of the sizes vary slightly because of the shape of the letters, numbers, or creatures.  They are all about a half inch thick.

My daughter loves these!  On the canister it says that the recommended age is 3 years and older.  My daughter had this set when she wasn't quite 1.  There isn't any reason why a 1 year old couldn't play with them in the tub in my opinion.  I guess the only difference is that a 1 year old may not be able to recognize letters and numbers as well as a 3 year old can.  My daughter at age 1 already knew quite a few of her letters at that point and that was why I bought them.  Like I said before, she pretty much knows all her letters now.  She knows all her numbers too.  At least the numbers 0-10.

I think the sea creatures are really cute! They are all very colorful.  The design on them makes the look of the creatures look more in detail.  Like for the fish, the design really isn't a design. They just have there fins and such colored. Or the turtle has the look of a shell.  Usually with the creatures, the design color is the same color as the creature itself except that it is a darker shade.  All the pieces are meant to stick to the side of the tub or the shower walls. They just stick when they are wet. I guess it's just the combination of the foam pieces and the water. She doesn't have a problem sticking them to the tub or taking them off.  I like the thickness of them because it makes them easy to get a hold of to remove them.

I think this set is great.  Your child learns to recognize all the letters (in lower case) and numbers.  Like I said, with the numbers, you can make many number combinations so the learning doesn't have to stop at 10.  There are lots of colors to learn and as they get older, they can begin to learn to spell small words!  My daughter can spell mom, dad, dog, cat, and hug. There are also quite a few sea creatures to play with also.  The canister is great too.  It's actually used as a storage container which is really nice.  The container stores all the pieces and there are holes on the bottom so that the water can drain off of them.  They are also mold and mildew resistant and we have never had a problem with them even though we have had them this long.  My daughter usually has these in the tub with her decorating the walls every time she takes a bath too.  I usually dry off any bath toy she has myself but I have never dried these myself and they are still like new!  I think they are great and I highly recommend them!
