Multivet Ssscat works wonders for training a cat to stay away from a spot.  Multivet Ssscathas a battery operated motion sensor with on/off switch.  When anything goes by the sensor, a non-toxic spray is dispensed from the canister.  This spray acts as a deterrent from keeping your cat from coming back to this spot.  Each canister has about 200 sprays and the canister is adjustable to control the angle of detection.

My cat got mad at me and nearly destroyed the carpet at the end of the hallway by turning it into her litter box.  After I cleaned up the mess, I needed a way to deter my cat from returning to the scene of the crime.  The pet store recommended Multivet Ssscat and it worked like a charm - my cat stays clear of the hallway corner.

Multivet Ssscat worked great for me because the place I needed to deter my cat from was in an out of the way corner in my hallway.  If this was placed in a high traffic area, canisters would have a short shelf life.  Additionally, the spray can affect small children - my son will not walk past the canister either.  Placement of the canister is key!

Although the deterrent is a bit pricey at $35 for the sensor and one cannister and $13 for refills, Multivet Ssscat can gently save your valuables - carpet, furniture, etc

Thanks for the suggesstion regarding the alternative refill idea for SSscat!!! Always like hearing economical alternatives.

If you're worried about the price, the SSscat can be refilled using a canister of compressed-air computer cleaner. I got a 3-pack at Target for about $10. Simply cut off the plastic trigger nozzle with some wire cutters ( be VERY careful not to puncture or even scrape the can!) and you're left with a can that's exactly like a Ssscat refill, only twice as large and a fraction of the price. Simply put the Sscat motion head on it and it works like a charm, not to mention lasts many times longer!

pesky cats. Ours likes to sleep in the baby's car seat. Thanks for sharing.

Oh yeah... you might want to do a re-read of that first paragraph :)
