Mt. Rushmore National Memorial  —

I went with the extended family to South Dakota this past summer. They arrived three days before my kids and I so they went to Mt. Rushmore and several other places before we got there. Still, I couldn't NOT take the kids to see this amazing national landmark!

When we visited, there was a live band playing in the patio area. There were bikers everywhere- we inadvertantly planned our trip the weekend before the motorcycle rally at Sturgis began! There were a lot of great events happening around SD because of the rally, such as the band we had the chance to see at Mt. Rushmore.

I noticed several of the bikers parked along the entry road to Mt. Rushmore instead of paying the parking and entry fees. I think they were on to something- you can get all the information you could ever ask for just by getting on the internet before you visit. The only downside is that you'll have a slightly more distant view and you won't be able to hike up to the monument. Still, if you're trying to save a few bucks, do like the bikers did and just take your pictures from the roadside.
