While my husband was doing a little holiday shopping last year he stopped into Neiman Marcus just to take a look around and found himself in front of the gourmet candy counter there. They were giving out free samples of Mrs. Weinstein's Gourmet Toffee and after trying just one piece he loved it so much that he bought some for my mom for Christmas.
When she opened it on Christmas day she passed it around to share and in no time it was all gone. It was one of the most delicious things I've ever tasted and I've not been able to get it out of my head since then.
This toffee is crunchy but not tooth-cracking crunchy like the cheap stuff. It is really rich and buttery and melts in the mouth. When I do bite or chew this toffee it doesn't get stuck in my teeth at all because it is light so it just ends up melting. There is a thin layer of chocolate with chopped almonds on top and a little bit of almonds inside the toffee.
I have always liked Heath and Skor toffee bars but this stuff is so much better. It's also about 9000% more expensive. The tin my husband bought at Neiman's was $20 for about 8 ounces of toffee. Now that did come in the cute round tin and was placed in a Neiman's gift bag with tissue paper and bow, but it's still pretty expensive. It's so nice for an occasional treat though. I checked online and 8 ounce packages without the cute tin are about $15 so that's a better value.
