Mr. Woodcock Review Summary

Viewpoints movie fans believe that Mr. Woodcock is "for anyone that's ever ben picked on as a child." Seann William Scott and Billy Bob Thornton star as a now adult child and the gym teacher who traumatized him years ago. They think all that is in the past, but of course it's not. While some reviewers find Mr. Woodcock "hilarious," others feel the "funny parts of the movie [are] too few and far between." Reviewers are also split on Thornton's performance, as while some think it's bad acting all the way around, others think he's taking it more seriously here, similar to his outpout in Astronaut Farmer. One reviewer used simple means to rate Mr. Woodcock, stating it "made my mom laugh, and that's enough for me."

Seann William Scott is hilarous as John Farley, writer of a self help book titled "Letting Go".  As a child, Farley is traumatized by his gym teacher, Mr. Woodcock (played by Billy Bob Thornton).  Mr. Woodcock is one of those gym teachers that we all hated.  He expects too much,… read full review »

To the PointWhen I come to Florida I like to take my mom to a light movie. Serious movies with tangled plots are difficult for her to understand. The fact the reviews weren't great for Mr. Woodcock didn't stop us. She loves Susan Sarandon and that was good enough for me. As it turned out we… read full review »

Taking his duties more seriously than he has in other recent comedies (such as Bad News Bears and School for Scoundrels), Billy Bob Thornton essays the title role in Mr. Woodcock with the intention of creating an icon. We meet him in the cold opening flashback scene as he runs through his paces, teaching gym class to a collection of high school non-athletes like a stoic, sadistic robot drill sergeant. Offhandedly delivering pain and humiliation to his hapless victims, he focuses in on chubby young John Farley (Kyley Baldridge) for some special attention. — Years later, Farley has… read full review »

Dumb, stupic and unfulfilling. I was invited to see a movie and this was the only reasonable choice, but it failed to meet any expectations. The only redeeming character was the young man who could not conceal his utter disgust for a former gym teacher that never rose to any acceptable standard of behavior, neither before nor after. Don't waste time on senseless… read full review »

I found this movie to be less enjoyable than I had hoped.  It wasn't a completely horrible movie to say the least.  I just found the actual funny parts of the movie to be too few and far between.  More of the physical comedy probably would have done it some good...for me anyway.  Mr. Woodcock was a little too harsh also...not a… read full review »

I went and saw this movie and thought it was very funny!  I love Bill Bob Thornton, he is a very funny guy.  He plays his Bad Santa attitude, which I find funny.  The entire movie was enjoyable and I would recommend it to anyone.  I would even go see it again..perhaps I'll rent… read full review »
