Mr. Magorium’s Wonder Emporium

Mr. Magorium’s Wonder Emporium is a magical toy store but it’s like the whistle in the Polar Express.  You can only experience the magic if you believe.

We took our 8 year old and 5 year old to Mr. Magorium's Wonder Emporium.  The kids really liked the magical aspect of it, but didn't really understand it.  Here's my review, without giving away too much of the plot line.  The adults really liked it, the ending was a bit lame, but completely set up...

Wonderful and magical movie!!

This movie is narrated by a young boy, he divides the movie into chapters and really only narrates the introduction to each chapter.

Mr. Magorium is played by Dustin Hoffman who does a fantastic job!! Mr. Magorium owns a magical toy store, Mahoney (played by Natalie Portman) is the store manager for him. She feels "stuck" in life and Mr. Magorium puts plans in motion to help her.

The effects in the toy store are amazing. Everything is completely believable, yet you know it's not possible!! lol They did a fantastic job.

I watched with my roommates 6 year old son and he...

I went into Mr. Magorium's Wonder Emporium thinking it was 100% aimed at children.  However, after just finishing the film, I really believe this movie has a message for adults and might even mean more to adults then to young ones.

The movie is about a man who owns a strange, somewhat magical, toy store.  Mr. Magorium has been running the store for something like 113 years... and he says he is 243.  His story is full of unbelievable goodies and toys which can only be explained by one word - Magic. However, from the very start of the story we see that Mr. Magorium is getting ready for some...

This movie captivated youngsters attention.  The kid at heart in me wanted to get to stay for more.  This movie was very clever in their plot and left children wanting to see this again and again.  Even my youngest child was able to tell me what was going on in the story.  The actors were wonderful and I would recommend this movie to everyone with younger and older children.  This is a great movie for the holidays.

This has the potential to go down as a real classic like Mary Poppins or Chitty Chitty Bang Bang or even Willie Wonka and the Chocolate Factory.  Dustin Hoffman was fabulous as the quirky owner, and his apprentice Natalie Portman was also splendid.  The story was about belief in the impossible, belief in oneself-positive messages without being preachy.  It was kind of billed as a Holiday movie by its release date and I wonder if that is why it didn't get more play time at the theaters.  I thoroughly enjoyed it and would gladly watch it again.  The special effects were very good without overwhelming... review »

I went into this movie with mixed feelings over the plot of this film.  From the advertising of this feature I felt it was going to be Willy Wonka all over again.  But this movie is something diffrent.  It is a magic, a hope, a smile and wonder to the heart.  It warmed me from the soul from the moment the movie opened in the drab basement of the Emporium.  I cannot begin to explain how fabulous all of the cast members did in BEING thier characters and making you know them.  I really felt like a child wanting more watching this movie.  I wanted to jump up and run down the street to that quaint... review »

Mr. Magorium's Wonder Emporium is a wonderful family film. Dustin Hoffman was awesome in this role. He plays a 243 year old man that owns a fantastic magical store. When he finds that his health is failing he turns his store over to Molly Mahoney (played by Natalie Portman) his store manager. There is just one problem. Molly is depressed and since the store reflects the persons energy she has to get out of her depressed state so the store can funtion the right way. When Mr. Magorium dies so does the store until the day Molly walks back in and realizes she has the power to make it come alive...

Before I went to this movie, I saw several reviews by the "movie critics" and was disappointed in their negative reviews of the movie.  I really recommend that everyone see this movie and ignore the critics who are being paid by who knows what type of company.  This movie was magical and imaginative as well as thought-provoking.  This movie truly leaves you feeling good about yourself and life.  The acting was outstanding and included Dustin Hoffman, Natalie Portman, and Jason Bates, but the true young actor you need to keep an eye on is the little boy in the movie who is always around the... review »
